A week or so ago, we confirmed that Paul Ryan was deliberately blocking the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act from coming to a vote.
This is the legislation that would give every law-abiding American the right to bear arms nationwide, no matter the state they live in. If you already have a concealed carry permit, it would instantly become valid in all fifty states. If you live in a state like California or New Jersey that refuses to issue permits to average Americans, you would be able to obtain a non-resident permit from Utah or Florida and then use that to carry in every state, including the one you live in!
This bill would uproot more than a century of anti-gun laws and restore the 2nd Amendment to all Americans, including the 80+ million who live behind the gun control iron curtain. It would get rid of the patchwork system of carry reciprocity and ensure that if you are allowed to carry a firearm in one state, you're allowed to carry in every state. That includes people who live in constitutional carry states!
So, it is not surprising that Paul Ryan would step in and block this common-sense pro-gun bill from coming to a vote. Conservatives are getting fed up with Ryan and Co. propping up the Left's gun control agenda. Paul Ryan co-sponsored the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act in 2009 when he knew it wouldn't pass. Now that it has a path, he is blocking it from happening.
Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY) broke the silence, saying on a radio show that Ryan told him personally that he was blocking concealed carry reciprocity because "he didn't think the timing was right." Apparently for Ryan, the timing isn't right to restore Americans' 2nd Amendment rights. How utterly pathetic...
A little over a week ago, we buried Congress with over a half-million FaxBlasts demanding they bust through Ryan's blockade and force a vote on the bill. Then, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act needed eight more votes in order to pass.
I am happy to report that because of your activism, three more Congressmen signed onto the bill. That's right, we are now just FIVE votes away from passing the biggest gun rights bill in US history! Two of the Congressmen - Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) and Mike Gallagher (R-WI) signed on the same day our FaxBlasts began flooding into their offices. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) signed on the following day. Just last week, your pressure forced Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy to sign onto the Senate bill, bringing it even closer to passage.
This is why we continue to fight day-in and day-out. When we started pushing for concealed carry reciprocity, it wasn't on anyone's radar. Together, we have now brought it to 213 sponsors/co-sponsors.
Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell think they can block this bill from coming to a vote. Normally, they could. But under Congressional rules, Congressmen can bypass the Speaker and force a vote on a bill if 218 of them sign onto a "discharge petition." This is the same number of votes necessary to pass a bill. This rule exists to make sure that one man isn't able to block legislation that has enough support to pass.
There is a similar "discharge resolution" in the Senate rules as. We need to keep the pressure up on the Senate as well. When this passes the House, then we will take the fight to the RINOs and the 10 Red and pro-gun-state Democrats up for re-election next year.
We are five votes away from getting this bill passed in the House of Representatives. Every time we launch a FaxBlast capaign, we end up forcing more Representatives to get behind the bill. Victory is now within our reach!
This is the biggest pro-gun bill ever to make it this far. For the past hundred years, we have seen Congress pass gun control bill after gun control bill, with nothing but token gifts to the 2nd Amendment community.
Now, we have a chance, a real chance, to dismantle anti-gun state laws that have been on the books for over a century. This is truly a once in a generation opportunity to finally claw-back our 2nd Amendment rights.
Paul Ryan is blocking the bill from getting a vote but with your help, we will force this to the floor!
Speaker Ryan says that the 'timing isn't right' to pass the biggest pro-gun bill in American history. He says that the 'timing isn't right' to restore the 2nd Amendment to the 26% of all Americans who live in gun control blue states.
I say, the timing has never been better!
Five more votes. That's all we need. Just five more votes...
