Yesterday, we received two updates on the gun control fight. First, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) announced that the gun control hearing scheduled for this coming Wednesday is being postponed.
Don't pop the champagne quite yet. The reason that the hearing is being postponed is because of Hurricane Dorian. Five members of the committee represent districts in Florida, so the hearing is being delayed a couple of days to make sure they can make it to DC in order to attend.
The Left isn't giving up. They are still promising to rush through their gun control package as soon as they can get enough Democrats to DC to vote for it.
We already knew that Democrats were pressuring Republicans to cave to their gun ban proposals, which would ban tens of millions of guns and outlaw life-saving high-capacity magazines. They are also demanding that the GOP agree to their gun confiscation package, which would allow the Federal government to disarm innocent Americans who have never broken the law.
But yesterday there was a shooting spree in Midland, Texas. Police pulled a car over during a routine traffic stop and the driver snapped. He shot the officer, stole a postal service truck, and started shooting people as he drove around town.
Because of that, Democrats are demanding that Republicans cave even more...
We don't even know the shooter's name... we don't know whether he had a criminal record or history of mental illness... We also don't know how he acquired his firearm...
And yet, Democrats are launching a new push to pass their universal gun registration bill, known as the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019. And as we have seen time and time again, there are Republicans in the wings eager to vote for it!
Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer released a statement yesterday demanding that Republicans bring their "background check bills" up for a vote next week.
Just so we are clear, this has nothing to do with background checks. Criminals don't obey gun laws, by definition. And the vast majority of mass shooters actually pass their background checks when they go to buy a gun.
This is all about creating a database of America's gun owners. The Bipartisan Background Checks Act would require a background check every time a gun changes hands in this country. In order to do that, the government needs to keep a registry of who owns what guns. Otherwise, there is no way to tell whether a private sale is legal.
We know from world history that every time a country forces gun owners to register with the government, gun bans and confiscations eventually follow. Just look at what is happening in Hong Kong right now. China forced its people to register their guns back in the 1950s and today, it is impossible to legally own a firearm. So even though there are 1.7 million people protesting in the streets of Hong Kong right now, fighting for their freedoms, they are being overpowered by police officers with six-shot revolvers. There is no way for them to fight for their freedom.
Every disarmament push in world history has started exactly like this. First, gun owners are forced to register with the government. Next, the government limits what kinds of guns they are allowed to own. And it all ends by finally forcibly disarming the population. Usually, this process takes decades.
But today's Democrats aren't willing to wait for it. They want total gun control now. So, with Republicans' help, they are now pushing a package that registers, bans, and confiscates firearms all at the same time!
Combined, this is everything the Left has ever wanted. Not only would it ban semi-automatic firearms and authorize confiscation raids against people who have never even been charged with a crime, but the universal registry part of the package would tell the government exactly which doors they need to kick-in in order to confiscate Americans' guns.
And the GOP is already caving.
So-called moderates like Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Susan Collins (R-ME) are helping Democrats advance their universal gun registry proposal. In the House, Congressmen Peter King (R-NY), Mike Turner (R-OH), and Brian Mast (R-FL) are now the leading Republican supporters for the Left's gun ban. Even Sen. Marco Rubio supports the Democrats' proposed firearm magazine ban. And when it comes to confiscations, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is promising to create a Federal confiscation program that would target legally innocent Americans.
Right now, the GOP is in negotiations with Democrats over how many guns to register, how many firearms to ban, and how many Americans should lose their God-given right to self-defense. The answer should be 'Zero,' but these Republican cowards are so eager to 'do something,' that they are actually negotiating with the anti-gun left!
Democrats have postponed next Wednesday's gun control hearing because of Hurricane Dorian. That gives us extra time to stop this gun control surrender before it's too late.
But the left is using this delay to add even more gun control to the package and pressure more Republicans to cave.
This is it. The gun control fight of our lives.
