Last week, the 9th Circuit overturned Pres. Trump's Remain in Mexico policy, ordering the administration to reinstate Obama's catch-and-release policy.
Immediately after the ruling came down, hundreds of illegal aliens tried to storm the border checkpoint in El Paso. Trump was forced to close the entire border bridge in order to stop the invasion.
When the 9th Circuit saw what was happening, they agreed to place a temporary hold on their own order to prevent a crisis. The Trump Administration filed an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court last week, and that decision is expected any day now.
Trump isn't taking any chances. He has ordered the 687th Engineer Construction Company and the 519th Military Police Battalion to the border in California to prevent a new invasion. They are joining the 5,000 other National Guard troops currently stationed all along the border.
President Trump is doing everything he can to protect the country. But if the Supreme Court lifts the hold, then we will face an invasion. The tens of thousands of illegal aliens who had been waiting in Mexico for the court hearings would be allowed to rush the border again, and Trump would have to let them in!
This shouldn't be happening. We shouldn't be on the brink of another border invasion.
This is all because Congress refuses to fix the problems in our asylum system. Right now, anyone can show up to the border and claim to be fleeing "targeted violence." The minute someone tells Border Patrol or ICE that they are "in fear for their life," the law automatically considers them an asylum applicant and schedules a court hearing.
But because of the huge backlog in the immigration courts, it takes months, even YEARS, for these cases to get heard. Illegal aliens know this. They know that if they claim asylum, they will be released with a notice to appear in court. And more than 90% of declined asylum applicants skip their court hearing all together.
Trump's Remain in Mexico policy put a stop to this. Instead of being released into our country, asylum applicants are returned to Mexico and wait there until their court dates. Already, Trump's actions have stopped more than 60,000 illegal aliens from being released into our country.
But all of that could be about to change. If the Supreme Court doesn't side with us, there will be more than sixty thousand illegal aliens storming the border.
It doesn't have to be this way. Of all people, Lindsey Graham has authored a bill that would put a stop to ALL of this. The Secure and Protect Act would implement four major changes to our immigration laws.
1) All illegal aliens would be held until their court dates. No more catch and release.
2) Family units would be kept together. Up until now, smugglers have used children to game the system, knowing that illegal aliens who show up as "family units" have to be released under current law. The Secure and Protect Act would change that law to make sure that family units are kept together, and not automatically released anymore.
3) Raise the asylum standards. Instead of simply being able to read from a script to claim asylum, applicants would have to prove that they are actual victims of violence. This change would protect legitimate asylum claims by throwing out the fraudulent ones.
4) Hire at least 500 immigration judges to work through the backlog and make sure that the fraudulent claims are tossed out while the legitimate ones are heard quickly.
Trump wouldn't need to be preparing for a new border invasion is Congress just did its job and passed this common sense bill!
Neither party wants to secure the border. Many Republicans want to keep the border open because their corporate donors want a cheap labor source. Democrats obviously want to keep the border open to import new Democrat voters.
Neither party really cares about the crime, fraud, violence, drugs, or disease that come into the country across the US-Mexico border. They have had decades to close these loopholes, and neither party has ever even tried to do it.
But with Trump, we finally have a President willing to do whatever it takes to secure the border. And the bill -- the Secure and Protect Act -- was written by Lindsey Graham, who used to be pro-amnesty.
We have a chance to fix this problem once and for all, but we are in a race against the clock. Soldiers are literally being deployed to the border, as you read this, to push back against another invasion at the border.
Congress must pass the Secure and Protect Act now and only YOU can force them to do it!
