Now that tax reform has passed Congress, Republicans and Democrats are scrambling to pass a short-term continuing resolution to keep the government funded. The bill that was just introduced would kick the can down the road until January 19.
That date is important because it will also mark the 45th annual March for Life.
The March for Life is the country's largest pro-life rally and has been held (almost) every year in Washington D.C. since the 1971 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision. Last year, the Trump administration became the first in history to send the Vice President to speak at the rally.
The timing of this -- the next budget deadline coinciding with the March for Life -- has invigorated Pro-Life groups to make another united push to finally defund Planned Parenthood.
Every year, Planned Parenthood receives half a billion from American taxpayers. That's not to mention all of the other abortion clinics that collect Federal funding. It is time to cut that all off.
A few years ago, Congress was poised to pass a major bill to end late-term abortions. With the entire March for Life gathered at the Capitol Building, one GOP Congresswoman -- Rep Renee Ellmers -- refused to let the measure move forward. She was presumed to be in a safe Republican district. The next time her name appeared on the primary ballot, she was defeated by 30 percent.
This is what happens when the GOP turns its back on the pro-life movement. This is why it is so important for you to get loud and demand this!
Imagine the historic significance if on the 47th anniversary of the Supreme Court legalizing abortion, Congress finally pulled the plug on taxpayer funded abortion.
President Trump has already said that he would sign such a bill. Not only that, but Trump's Department of Justice has re-opened the investigation into Planned Parenthood's sale of unborn baby body parts after discovering that the Obama administration had decided to let it slide. We have the opportunity to be a part of the one-two punch that puts this scourge out of business.
Planned Parenthood alone performs more than three hundred thousand abortions a year. That doesn't include all of the other abortion providers around the country. Just think about how much that number would shrink if Federal funding is cut off.
That's not just a hypothetical or wishful thinking. If the Federal government stops funding and subsidizing abortion clinics, these butcher shops will perform thousands fewer abortions.
It is becoming increasingly obvious that Congress will not be able to agree on a long-term budget in time for the Friday deadline. That means they will have to pass a "continuing resolution," basically a short-term spending bill. The legislation that was just introduced sets that new fiscal cliff at January 19, the same day as the March for Life.
Not everyone will be able to make it to the March for Life in Washington DC who would want to. But you can still make your voice heard and join the fight to FORCE Congress to defund Planned Parenthood!
My wife and I are expecting our first son in late January as well. It has been an absolute thrill to be able to watch my baby grow on the ultrasound monitor over the course of my wife's pregnancy.
But every time I walk into that exam room and see my baby on the screen, I can't help but think about all the babies on similar ultrasound machines in abortion clinics, being examined for no reason other than to plan an abortion; To plan a murder.
Every time I drive past the hospital where my son will be born, I immediately think about hearing him cry for the first time. A baby's first cry is supposed to be a beautiful thing, but in so many abortion clinics across the country, it means something else entirely...
I understand that not everyone is super passionate about the pro-life cause. I understand that with Christmas on the way, there are tons of other things you are probably focused on.
But this... this is something that deserves your support. We have a real chance of forcing Congress to pull the plug on abortion providers once and for all.
Back in 2015, Congress passed a measure to defund Planned Parenthood and actually sent it to President Obama's desk (which he vetoed). Now that we have a President actually willing to sign it, GOP leadership has gone completely silent on the issue.
No more.
You have an opportunity of a lifetime to make sure that Federal funds never again are used to prop up the abortion industry.
Seize it.
Sincerely,
