Breaking News: Republicans are caving to the left's open border demands and blocking Lindsey Graham's asylum bill from reaching the floor!
The fight over gun control is ongoing in Washington DC. But whenever the media spends all of its time focusing on one thing, we like to make sure that the establishment isn't trying to sneak something through another issue.
The GOP does this all the time. When the country is focusing on one issue, they sneak a horrible bill through or kill something they have been promising Conservatives for years...
Sure enough it is happening again. While the country is focusing on the El Paso and Dayton shootings, the GOP is quietly trying to kill an important border security bill!
Late last week, Lindsey Graham made good on a promise. He forced an asylum crackdown bill through the Judiciary Committee against the Democrats' objections. Democrats tried everything to block the bill. They even boycotted the previous week's meeting to deny Graham the quota that he needed to markup and approve the legislation. But Lindsey Graham, for all his faults, did what was necessary to push the bill through to the floor. It is called the Secure and Protect Act.
There is only one problem: Mitch McConnell won't touch it. Republicans in the House, not to mention Nancy Pelosi, are refusing to touch it. After the El Paso shooting, Republicans are refusing to pass the Graham bill because they're terrified of being branded a "White Supremacist" now if they try to secure the border...
They are total cowards.
The GOP says that there simply isn't any appetite for an immigration bill after the El Paso shooting. Because one madman decided to commit a horrible hate crime, that was enough for the GOP to completely abandon the border security issue. Democrats declared that anyone who supports border security is now a white nationalist, so no Republican wants to touch the Graham Bill...
Trump signed an executive order at the start of the year forcing migrants to wait in Mexico while their asylum cases are heard. The government just released the statistics. So far, 1,115 asylum cases have been heard in court. NONE of them were approved. They were all fraud.
For the first time ever, illegal aliens committing asylum fraud were turned away instead of released into the country. Now, they're going home. If you didn't already know there was fraud at the border, this proves it. These people claimed that they were fleeing for their lives. But as soon as they lost their US cases, they went back to the countries they were allegedly fleeing...
The fraud is out of control. People are gaming the system to get into the United States, even though they have no legitimate claim for asylum.
Lindsey Graham is trying to put an end to this fraud once and for all. He just pushed his asylum reform bill through committee that would would fix three specific asylum loopholes.
(1) It would hire 500 immigration judges to eliminate the asylum case backlog. Right now, the average asylum application takes over 730 days to reach a court room. That is two years. Since migrants know we don't have the funds or space to detain every illegal alien for two years, they know that they are guaranteed to be released into the country if they make it to a border patrol checkpoint.
(2) It would allow Border Patrol and ICE to detain families for 100 days. Right now, the government can only detain a family unit for 20 days before they have to be released, thanks to a Clinton-era court settlement. Since it takes 2 years for migrants to get a court date, 20 days is not nearly long enough to vet an asylum application. Illegal aliens know this. There has been a sharp increase in child trafficking at the border this year. Illegal aliens are abducting and even purchasing children because they know US law treats children as a get-out-of-jail-free card.
Once the backlog is eliminated by the new judges, the new 100-day cap would allow the government to fully vet migrants without having to release them into the country. This would completely shut down the fraud and human trafficking we're seeing at the border.
(3) It would redefine what it means to have a "credible fear of persecution." In order to get asylum, migrants need to have a credible fear of persecution in their home country. Graham's bill would require that all migrants apply for asylum in the first safe country they reach. Look at it this way. There are thousands of African migrants showing up to the border every month now. They are claiming a credible fear of persecution in their home countries.
But if they really were fleeing for their life, then they should have settled down as soon as they reached Brazil or Argentina. They claim that they had no choice but the flee their homeland because they were being persecuted, which is entirely plausible. But in order to get to the US, they had to march through 8-10 countries in order to reach the US border. If they faced persecution in Africa, then they should have been safe the minute they reached South or Central America. Graham's bill requires migrants to apply for asylum every time they reach a new safe country. And only if they are denied there would they be allowed to apply to come to the US.
The GOP just told Graham that his bill is dead on arrival. After the El Paso shooting, none of these cowards want to risk being branded a "white supremacist" by tackling the border issue. They're afraid of securing the border.
You can stop this, but only if you rise up and make them fear you!
We are so close to winning this. Finally, we have a bill that would stop the border crisis once and for all. It respects legitimate asylum seekers while cracking down on the fraud that is paralyzing Border Patrol and ICE.
Democrats tried to block the bill from leaving committee, but Lindsey Graham pushed it through anyway. He is up for re-election next year and knows he will lose unless he gets tough on the border.
That isn't a coincidence. Graham pushed this bill through because he is terrified of what would happen if he didn't.
You have that power. You have the power to hold Congress accountable and force them to push this bill through.
But you need to fight back now. After the El Paso shooting, the GOP is rushing to kill this bill. If they kill the bill, then we have to start back at square-one.
You CANNOT let this happen!
Don't let them cave!
