The House GOP is voting on a major gun control bill this week and they have stripped major gun rights amendments like Concealed Carry Reciprocity!
When the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act passed the House of Representatives last year, the leadership added a gun control amendment at the last minute. Known as "Fix NICS," this amendment would overhaul the background check system to make sure that all prohibited person records are added to the FBI's database.
We were told that this was necessary to get liberal Republicans to vote for it. This gun control was palatable because in return, we would have gotten nationwide concealed carry reciprocity. Law-abiding Americans with permits to carry concealed handguns would be able to do so in ALL 50 states. Not only that, but Americans living in anti-gun states would finally be allowed to carry guns for self-defense.
What happened? The GOP leadership just stripped the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act from the gun bill that is hitting the floor this week.
Instead of expanding the 2nd Amendment, they are going to vote on a package that expands the background check system.
Instead of protecting your rights, they are stabbing you in the back!
This is the ultimate betrayal. The GOP is literally stabbing Conservatives in the back.
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act was a major promise, not just from the GOP but also from President Trump.
Since Trump took office, the Republican leadership has used every opportunity to stall on this legislation. Whenever pro-gun legislation would come up for a committee hearing, Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell would pull the plug.
It happened after the Congressional baseball shooting. It took a good guy with a gun to take down the shooter, but Paul Ryan said the "timing" wasn't right to protect Americans' right to carry.
It happened after the Texas church shooting. Even though the shooting was stopped by a neighbor with a gun, Ryan and McConnell blocked the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act from moving forward.
Then, after the Las Vegas shooting, Paul Ryan again delayed the bill from getting a floor vote.
Every. Single. Time.
Now, Congress is finally going to vote on gun legislation and the pro-gun amendments we were promised were just left on the cutting room floor.
This is betrayal!
When it looked like there was no hope for gun control, the establishment added a gun control measure to the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act in order to get it passed. But now that the tables have turned, they are only going to move forward with the background check bill.
Once again, they're saying the "timing isn't right" to protect the right to bear arms.
Don't let them get away with this!
