During a Christmas statement to the media yesterday, President Donald Trump warned that the government will remain shutdown until Democrats agree to approve border wall construction.
"I can tell you it's not going to be open until we have a wall," Trump announced from the oval office.
Establishment Republicans, of course, were furious.
They didn't want to shutdown the government for even one day, let alone do it indefinitely. To them, border security simply isn't worth it.
Over Christmas, the GOP leaders went to Chuck Schumer with a counter-offer. Instead of demanding 5.7 billion, they would settle for half of that. The Democrats instantly refused. Even though the Left agreed to pass 1.6 billion in border wall funding, now they're demanding a government spending bill that funds ZERO border wall construction.
This is about national security, but all Democrats seem interested in is playing politics.
President Trump is threatening to keep the government shutdown until Democrats relent and come to their senses. So why are Republican cowards rushing to try to reopen the government without getting any border wall funding?
Every time that it comes time for Congress to fight for conservative policies, the RINOs run to the left and join the Democrats to block it.
This is especially true with budget and spending fights. Remember John Boehner? One of the reason he was removed as Speaker was because every time Conservatives wanted to fight, he teamed up with Democrats to preserve the status quo. Paul Ryan did the same thing, passing multiple spending bills with mostly Democrat support.
Now, the establishment wants to do it again and it is the same cast of characters. Eight House Republicans have already voted against the border wall, not to mention the dozen others who refused to even show up to vote. Sure, some of them -- like Florida Reps. Carlos Curbelo and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen -- have already lost their seats. But shockingly, Conservatives like Ken Buck (R-CO) voted against the wall bill as well.
On the Senate side, we're seeing traitors like Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Bob Corker (R-TN) rushing to stick it to President Trump before they leave office at the start of the year. But they have also found unlikely allies in Establishment leaders like Lamar Alexander (R-TN) who want to end the shutdown as soon as possible, no matter the cost.
Democrats are licking their lips. They are now just a couple of Republican defections away from ending the shutdown on their own and blocking the border wall from ever being built!
President Donald Trump is sticking to his promise but the GOP refuses to budge. Trump had to drag Paul Ryan kicking and screaming to hold a vote on border wall funding. Now, Republicans are running to the Left as fast as they can to get the government reopened, even if it means giving up the fight for the border wall.
Right now, the GOP is working on a bill to increase foreign aid spending to Mexico and Central America by more than 10 billion, twice what Trump is asking to build the wall. They would rather give your taxdol.lars away to the countries helping the illegal alien caravans reach the border than approve a border wall to protect you!
President Trump can only do so much. He needs YOUR help to force Congress to hold the line and push the border wall funding through before it's too late!
