Yesterday, I told you that many in the GOP are cowards. That is true. But today, I want to amend that statement: They are also idiots.
This push to abolish Columbus Day and replace it with a holiday practically anyone had ever heard of before this year, Juneteenth, is idiotic.
Democrats are pushing hard to make Juneteenth a Federal holiday. Just as a brief explainer, Juneteenth is a Texas holiday, formally declared in 1980, commemorating how the city of Galveston was the last to learn about the Emancipation Proclamation that freed the slaves. They learned about Abraham Lincoln's executive order 1,001 days after it was signed.
Before this year, practically no one had ever heard of Juneteenth. But now, the GOP is bending over to make it a federal holiday. Democrats are now reporting that they have the votes in the House and the Senate to federalize the Juneteenth holiday.
People are free to observe whatever holidays they want, but it is idiotic to make Juneteenth a federal holiday. This was not the day that Lincoln freed the slaves. He signed his executive order on September 22, 1862 and it went into effect on January 1, 1863. Juneteenth, as I said, celebrates how Galveston, Texas found out about it 1,001 day later... Even beyond the silliness of the holiday, I also cannot stress enough how disruptive this would be to add a new federal and banking holiday to the calendar, so close to both Memorial Day and Independence Day.
But as I said, the GOP is ready to pander and give the Far Left what they want: a new federal holiday that, even just a couple of weeks ago, next to no one had ever heard about or celebrated...
But the Grand Old Party refuses to simply cave. They want a complete and total surrender. Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI) and James Lankford (R-OK) have introduced an amendment to the Juneteenth bill that they say is a "compromise." I use that word lightly because it is clear they have no idea what it actually means.
Their compromise is that in addition to giving Leftists a new federal holiday, Congress would also abolish Columbus Day, a holiday that the Radical Left has wanted removed for decades.
These GOPers are so spineless that after being bullied and pressured into giving the Leftists what they want, their idea of a "compromise" is to surrender even more to the anti-American mob!
What is amazing is that after all of the push back from Conservatives and independents, these idiots are still moving forward with their plan.
And listen to this: the new reason for this surrender is "fiscal responsibility." Johnson and Lankford say that since it is inevitable that Juneteenth will become a federal holiday, they need to 'balance the budget' by removing Columbus Day.
This has gotten to be so stupid that they are actually trying to use economics to justify their betrayal.
And that is what this is: a betrayal. Not a betrayal of us, but a betrayal of our founding principles. When a Leftists tears down a Christopher Columbus statue, they aren't just angry at that one man. They hate what he represents, which was the beginning of European exploration of the New World. To the radical left, Columbus was a genocidal maniac. He is a symbol of everything wrong with the American continent today, namely "whiteness."
Liberals are tearing down his statue because they believe the New World never should have been discovered and Europeans never should have been allowed to colonize it. They are tearing down this statue because they believe the United States is still illegally occupying "indigenous lands."
I said this yesterday, but I personally don't care whether someone celebrates Columbus Day or not. I also don't care if someone celebrates Juneteenth. I think it's stupid to celebrate the fact that a city in texas learned about an executive order 1,001 days after it was signed, but to each their own.
But I do have a problem with giving-in to the Leftist Mob that is literally hell-bent on destroying this country. And I do have a problem that when we desperately need the GOP to just hold the line, they are folding like a cheap suit.

As stupid and as cowardly as the GOPer are, they are still politicians. They swore an oath to represent their constituents and they understand that if they go against the will of the people, they will face removal from office.
The reason they are caving on this is that they believe Conservatives won't care. They truly believe that you won't care if they abolish Columbus Day to make room for a Juneteenth holiday that most people had never heard of prior to this year... They think that since you aren't paying attention, this is an easy way to appease the mob and make themselves look good to the far left.
We are already racing down the slippery slope. This never was just about removing "confederate" statues. This has always been about tearing down our history and rewriting it the way the Leftist "social justice warriors" want it to be. First, the GOP surrendered and agreed to rename historic military bases -- Ft. Hood, Benning, Bragg -- because they are named after confederates. Now, these cowards are agreeing that Columbus Day is somehow a racist holiday...
If the GOP caves on this, it is all over. There is no appeasing these rabid leftists. They will keep going...
