President Trump has released his budget, and he is finally taking the fight to the United Nations!
Trump's plan cuts 41 billion in foreign aid and would reduce the State Department's budget by over 3 billion. But here is the real kicker: funding for international organizations like the United Nations would be practically eliminated.
When the United Nations faced its bankruptcy crisis late last year, Trump told the UN to ask other countries for help. He told them that the United States was done propping them up.
Now, the President has finally put his plan to paper... and it is exactly what we have been calling for!
Democrats are promising to fight the foreign aid cuts with everything they've got. But here is the worst part: Republicans are telling the President to stand down as well!
Over the weekend, Senator Lindsey Graham met with Secretary of Defense Mark Esper at a security conference in Germany. There, Esper told Graham that the administration plans to withdraw American troops stationed in Western Africa and start reducing the foreign aid being pumped into that region.
According to reports, Graham responded by promising to "make [Esper's] life hell" if he dared follow through with the troop and aid withdrawal.
This was the GOPer's response to just ONE proposal to scale back US foreign aid. Trump now wants to cut almost ALL of it.
Amazingly, it is actually Republicans who are the ones up in arms over Trump's plan to cut foreign aid.
What is the GOP so anxious to protect? The funding Trump wants to cut includes funding for a Bob Dylan statue in Mozambique, a NASA-sponsored space camp for Pakistani children, and the professional cricket league in Afghanistan. This is what Congress considers 'vital' foreign aid. This would be a joke if this wasn't bankrupting us...
President Trump has declared war on the bloated foreign aid budget. Now it is up to us to force Congress to pass it!
