Breaking News: Pres. Trump just declared the national emergency to build the border wall, and GOP cowards are already mobilizing to stop him!
The immigration bill that Republicans and Democrats negotiated is horrible. This is what happens when both political parties want open borders...
President Trump is absolutely disgusted over this. That is why today, he declared a national emergency to get more funding to secure the southern border.
"We don't control our own border," Trump announced. "We're going to confront the national security crisis on our southern border and we're going to do it, one way or the other... we have to do it."
The declaration allows President Trump to move around enough funding to construct hundreds of miles of new border barriers, as opposed to the 55 miles that Congress just approved.
What President Trump is doing is legal. In 1976, Congress passed the National Emergencies Act. The President of the United States has the authority to declare national emergencies and then redirect appropriations in order to fund important projects.
The Obama administration was no stranger to this process. Obama moved around billions in funding to achieve his policy aims. For example, Obama gave the UN a billion for their climate change treaty, even though Congress had never ratified it. Obama also used a discretionary slush fund to send 1.7 billion in hard currency to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This is totally within Trump's power.
Republicans in Congress, however, are promising to join the Democrats and block the order!
While the National Emergencies Act of 1976 gives the President these powers, the legislation also allows Congress to overrule the ruling with just a simple majority.
With Democrats in control of the House, that means it takes just FOUR Republican turncoats in order for the Resolution of Disapproval to pass.
That's it. If just four Republicans vote against Trump's order, they can start blocking it. Right now, there are at least four Republican Senators on the record saying they oppose Trump's order: Rand Paul (KY), Susan Collins (ME), Marco Rubio (FL), and Lisa Murkowski (AK). Others like Mitt Romney (UT) have also signaled they would vote against the President.
Even Mitch McConnell warned the President that he would not stop the GOP from overruling the emergency declaration.
For the first time in my lifetime, we have a President willing to do everything in his power to secure the Southern Border. The problem is that Republicans and Democrats are uniting to block him!
Republicans and Democrats are so dedicated to open borders, that they are now moving to stop the President from securing the border.
And they have the votes to do it...
This now is our last chance to secure the border. The GOP tried to block the wall in this latest Homeland Security funding bill. They tried to limit new barrier construction to just 55 miles. Trump says that is not good enough, and he is absolutely right.
President Trump needs your help. You MUST stop Congress from pulling the rug out from under President Trump and blocking his border emergency declaration!
