It is really no surprise that radical liberals today despise the Fourth of July. The holiday celebrates a bunch of white men who refused to pay high taxes or surrender their firearms. Of course Leftists hate it...
We all know that the Democrats' end-goal is to regulate firearms out of existence. That will never happen with Donald Trump in the White House. While Pres. Trump has made some mistakes in 2nd Amendment policy, he still is the only one blocking the Left's most radical proposals.
There are essentially two ways for the Left to go after the 2nd Amendment: they can target gun owners or target how Americans acquire firearms. The Left knows that they won't be able to push through a nationwide, door-to-door confiscation bill. So, they are getting creative and targeting how Americans acquire firearms!
These three bills would chip away at your 2nd Amendment rights and set the country down the path towards more gun bans and confiscations in the future.
The first bill is the Handgun Purchaser Licensing Act (H.R.3285 / S.1844). As the name suggests, this legislation would force Americans to apply for a government permit every time they want to purchase a handgun. The implication is that the government would have the power to reject these permit applications, even if the purchaser would have passed the background check.
There are 9 states that currently have"may-issue" carry laws. What that means is that if you apply in these states for a license to carry a gun, the state only may issue it to you. H.R.3285 / S.1844 is simply an attempt to take this may-issue policy nationwide and apply it to handgun purchases. Of course, every pistol would have be registered with the Federal government and kept in a database. History also shows us that when states like California and New Jersey imposed this permit requirement, they followed up with limits on how many guns someone should be allowed to acquire.
But the only way this gun control bill can work is if the Left forces Americans to acquire their firearms through licensed gun dealers. If someone builds their own gun at home -- which is incredibly popular and becoming easier and easier to do -- they could completely skirt this new registration/permit bill. So, of course, the Left has introduced a companion bill to close this "loophole." H.R.3265 / S.1831 would make it illegal to share or possess firearm blueprints. While Democrats are trying to add amendments banning homemade firearms to this bill, the legislation as it stands now specifically targets the blueprints. It would be a felony to possess plans, blueprints, or computer files teaching you how to build a gun.
But the Left isn't stopping there. After forcing gun owners to register their handguns and making it illegal to build a gun at home, the third bill in their package is the Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act (H.R.3214 / S.1779). Not surprisingly, this bill was written by Adam Schiff (D-CA). This is, perhaps, the most dangerous bill of the three. This proposed legislation would allow victims of gun violence to sue gun manufacturers, distributors, and stores when their a firearm they sold is used in a crime.
Right now, the gun industry is protected from lawsuits blaming them for gun crime. When a criminal murders someone with a hammer, the victim's family isn't allowed to sue Home Depot for selling them the hammer. The law applies the same protections to the gun industry. If someone commits a crime with a gun, it isn't the seller, distributor, or manufacturer's fault. H.R.3214 / S.1779 would repeal those protections and allow the gun control movement to start trying to bankrupt the gun industry.
Believe it or not, all of these bills are being portrayed as "compromises" and they are already starting to get Republican supporters!
This is the "compromise" that the establishment is talking about now. It would let the GOP claim they "did something" on gun control without passing any of the Democrats' signature gun control bills. The "compromise" is that the Left only wants to ban some guns and target some gun owners... this time.
But while this package won't get as many headlines as a straight-up gun ban, it is just as dangerous.
These three bills are designed to work together. First, the package outlaws homemade guns, forcing every American who wants to own a handgun to get one from a licensed dealer. The next bill imposes a permit requirement for handgun purchases, giving the government the power to block law abiding gun owners from exercising their rights. And as if that wasn't bad enough, the last piece would let gun control organizations bankrupt gun stores and manufacturers whenever a gun they sell is used in a violent crime.
The Left knows they can't get away with simply banning handguns. But this package would ultimately have the same result!
As we continue to celebrate the Fourth of July into the weekend, I want you to remember what we are celebrating. We are celebrating men who refused to surrender their guns to the British Empire 243 years ago and instead used their guns to declare war against the strongest military in the world.
I am not asking you to load up your muskets and march on Washington. But I am asking you to fight back right now!
Members of Congress swore an oath to defend the Constitution, including the 2nd Amendment. It is up to you to remind them of this oath and FORCE them to kill this terrible gun control package!
