It is worse than anything we could have imagined... Earlier this week, we reported that the Taliban were holding Americans "hostage" and refusing to allow their flights to take off from Mazar i Sharif airport in Afghanistan.
That was true. The definition of "hostage taking" is restricting someone's movement and demanding something in return for their freedom. Technically, that's what the Taliban has been doing here.
But it didn't have to be that way. Over 100 Americans and over 1,500 Afghan Christians were on the planes, ready to take off. Right before they took off, though, the State Department ordered them to stop. Biden's State Department refused to approve the flights' manifest and refused to clear the flights to land.
This forced the passengers to deboard and walk back into the airport. Only THEN did the Taliban realize that Americans were trying to escape. That is when they decided to try to get something in return for allowing these flights to leave...
In other words, this entire "hostage" situation was caused by the State Department refusing to allow planes filled with Americans and Afghan Christians to take off... After abandoning these people and leaving them to die in Afghanistan, the State Department actually worked to stop them from escaping on their own...
This is despicable. It is disgusting. It is as un-American as it gets...
There are still hundreds of Americans and thousands of Afghan allies and Christians stuck in Afghanistan. The Biden administration will not help them voluntarily. They must be FORCED to save these people!
As I reported, there is a bill in Congress that would force the Biden administration to rescue these Americans. It is crazy that a bill like this is even necessary. Never before have we seen an American President not only abandon Americans like this, but also work overtime to stop them from escaping on their own...
The bill - H.R. 5071 - would force Biden to do five specific things:
(1) Biden would be forced to deliver a plan to Congress to rescue and bring the abandoned American citizens home from Afghanistan;
(2) The Pentagon would be required to produce a public accounting of all American taxpayer-funded weapons and military hardware believed to now be under Taliban control;
(3) All deals struck between the Biden administration and the Taliban would have to be transparent - No secret deals with terrorist organizations;
(4) Congress would formally declare that the Taliban is not the legitimate government of Afghanistan;
and (5) Prohibit Biden from giving the Taliban aid, funding, or sanctions relief of any kind.
This is about as common sense as it gets. Unfortunately, Biden is doing the opposite of literally all of this.
We have reached a point when the President* must be dragged kicking and screaming and forced to not only save Americans, but put America First. And that is precisely what H.R. 5071 would do!
Last week, the bill's author - Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) - tried to pass it through unanimous consent. This is a process that can bypass committee hearings and bring a bill directly to the floor as long as no one in Congress objects to it. If even one Congressman objects, then it can't be fast-tracked.
One Democrat stood up last week and shouted "I object," so the bill was blocked from passing through unanimous consent. But the legislation is not dead yet. There are still plenty of Republicans and Democrats who realize this bill must pass.
Now that we know the Biden State Department is actively blocking Americans from escaping, forcing them back under the control of the Taliban, there is no time to waste.
H.R. 5071 must pass NOW and it is up to YOU to force the vote before it's too late!
