The GOP is working overtime to pass gun control. With the mainstream media fixated on the impeachment hysteria, the Republican Establishment thinks this is their best chance to push through gun control without facing real consequences at the ballot box.
We all know what the Democrats want. They want to ban so-called "assault weapons", force Americans to sell their firearms back to the government, and give the Feds the power to confiscate firearms from innocent people.
Republicans are publicly promising to block any bill that deals with gun bans, buybacks, or confiscation. That should have been the end of it.
But instead, Republicans are now countering Democrats with an offer of their own. Instead of giving the Left the ability to ban and confiscate everyone's guns, the GOP is now offering to allow Democrats to create a nationwide registry of American gun owners!
I have said it before, but I will say it again: registration always leads to confiscation. Take a look around the world. Every country that has confiscated their citizens' guns started by forcing them to register their firearms first.
This is what Democrats want for our country as well, and the GOP is just offering to give it to them.
The GOP's compromise plan would require that all Americans notify the government before they buy or sell any firearm. Right now, the FBI and ATF are notified when Americans buy guns from licensed firearm dealers. That is what happens when the background check is performed. The buyer's name is given to the FBI and government officials determine whether someone can or cannot take the firearm home.
The Republican plan would apply this same system to private sales as well. If you wanted to sell a gun to someone else, you would need to notify the government. Not only would the government get the buyer's name, but they would get your name as well. On top of that, you would need to produce a record of the sale and safeguard it for at least 20 years. If the government ever wants to know what specific firearm you sold, you would have to give the ATF these records.
When our background check system was being debated in 1994, Republicans refused to let Democrats do this. They recognized that the government could not be trusted with this information. If the government was able to keep a database of all American gun owners, nothing good could ever come of it.
But today, the GOP has changed its tune. They are so desperate to "do something" on gun control and preserve their own political power that they are willing to sell you out!
The Judiciary Committee held a gun control hearing last week. It didn't get a whole lot of coverage because that was the same day that Trump released the transcript of his call with the Ukrainian President.
A lot happened during that hearing. Democrats made it clear that gun bans and confiscations are their ultimate goals. But instead of fighting back, Republicans offered to meet them halfway.
The GOP's compromise offer has now leaked. It is just as bad as we warned.
Republicans are using the impeachment coverage to stab you in the back on the 2nd Amendment. They are offering to lay the foundation for Democrats to confiscate Americans' firearms, and they think they can get away with it.
Now, the only question left is what are you going to do about it?
Are you going to let them get away with this? Or will you hold their feet to the fire and stop this betrayal before it's too late?
I don't know about you, but I choose the latter...
