Glenn Simpson founded Fusion GPS, the company that the DNC and Clinton campaign used to target President Trump with their bogus "Russia dossier."
Simpson has testified before Congress a few times over the past year. In one of those hearings, he was asked point-blank if he ever met with Bruce Ohr before the 2016 election. Simpson replied, "no."
Bruce Ohr, as you remember, is married to Nellie Ohr, who worked for Fusion GPS. Bruce Ohr was the Deep State operative who laundered the Clinton campaign's smear document to bring it into the DOJ and FBI.
But here is the thing: Simpson lied. He did meet with Ohr before the election, and Congress has testimony and communications evidence to prove it.
This is important because Simpson claimed that he wasn't working with the Obama administration to try to take down then-Candidate Trump. His claim was that he only teamed up with the DOJ after Trump was elected. He lied under oath. That is a crime, punishable by up to five years in prison.
Now, of course, Glenn Simpson is defying a Congressional subpoena to testify and answer for his crimes. He knows that the minute he shows up, he will face arrest and criminal charges.
So why is the GOP letting him get away with this???
Conservatives in Congress are now flexing their muscles, threatening to have Simpson forcibly dragged in to testify. Simpson's lawyers responded that if that happens, he will plead the fifth.
It is not a coincidence that the same week that Simpson refused to testify, Rod Rosenstein did as well. As you remember, Rosenstein is the one who proposed wearing a wire to trap President Trump and remove him from office.
Rosenstein defied another Congressional subpoena this week. Not only did he refuse to hand over the documents to Congress, but he refused to even show up to answer questions.
Rep. Jim Jordan is fuming mad, but also confident that the Deep State's conspiracy is starting to crumble.
"You know we're getting close when first Rosenstein is a no-show, and now Glenn Simpson is taking the 5th," Jordan declared yesterday.
We have them dead-to-rights. We have the head of Fusion GPS on perjury charges for lying under oath about his collusion with the Obama administration to take down the President. And we have the #2 in the Justice Department on Contempt charges for flagrantly violating and defying a lawfully issued Congressional subpoena.
Right now, Congress has the power to criminally charge both the man who started the Trump-Russia witch hunt and the man who is currently running it.
Why hasn't it happened? Two words: Paul Ryan.
When Rosenstein refused to comply with the Congressional order, Ryan intervened to block the committee from taking action against him.
Now, this week, when Glenn Simpson blew off Congress and refused to testify, Ryan stepped in again to reschedule the hearing. Simpson is going to use this get-out-of-jail-free card to plead the fifth and again refuse to answer questions.
Conservatives in Congress keep catching these deep state agents in lies and crimes, but the Speaker of the House refuses to let them file criminal charges. We saw the same thing during the Obama administration. Investigations into Obama officials like Lois Lerner or IRS Commissioner John Koskinen found literal crimes. Ryan wouldn't let conservatives file charges there, either.
Enough is enough!
The entire Trump-Russia investigation was built on a foundation of lies. The Democrat Party and Clinton campaign hired Simpson to collude with the Obama administration to take down Trump. And we're just supposed to sit there and let them finish this coup? Absolutely not!
If you tried to defy a subpoena or refuse to show up to court to testify, you would be arrested. But when it comes to the Deep State, Ryan doesn't think the rules should apply to them.
The Deep State is literally hiding evidence from Congress and refusing to turn it over. President Trump ordered them to declassify and release everything, and Rosenstein and his ilk openly refused the direct order. Everyone who is subpoenaed to testify is refusing to show up. And Paul Ryan just wants to let them get away with it.
Not. Anymore.
