Breaking: Republican cowards are trying to run out the clock on major 2nd Amendment legislation and block them from passing before Democrats seize power at the end of the month! It's up to you to fight back!
Paul Ryan is spending his final days in office making sure that the majority of the conservative agenda does not get passed. That includes all of the pro-gun legislation that President Trump and Republicans promised on the campaign trail.
There are two specific bills: HR.38, The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act and HR.3668, the Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreation Enhancement Act.
We have covered the first bill a lot in depth. The legislative language details that if are lawfully licensed or permitted to carry a concealed firearm in a state, then that license or permit is valid in all states. Not only does this give nationwide reciprocity to current carry permit holders, but it would finally allow law-abiding gun owners living in anti-gun states to carry using non-resident permits from states like Utah or Florida. That's right: if a state like California refuses to issue a law abiding and qualified citizen a carry permit, he or she can turn to other more gun friendly states to get a permit and then use that permit to carry in their home state!
The Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreation Enhancement (Share) Act is a common sense bill that fixes a lot of the loopholes that enabled President Obama to enact gun control through the ATF and Interior Department. In the final months of the Obama presidency, we saw a massive assault on ammunition. The Obama administration had tried to implement a ban on lead ammunition -- which is the majority of ammunition on the market -- use on Federal lands. But then, the ATF also tried to push through a ban on non-lead ammunition because they have a tendency to pierce soft bullet proof vests. The result was that it would have been illegal to use practically any ammo on Federal land. Share Act would not only reverse these ammo ban orders, but it would also prevent future Presidents from ever trying it again.
The Share Act also restores and expands self-defense rights to hunters and sportsmen on Federal land, it would open up more Federal lands for hunting and target shooting, and repeal the unconstitutional regulations on suppressors. Go to Europe and even in the countries with the strictest gun control laws, suppressors are largely unregulated. That is because they are seen as safety devices and generally good for communities. In the United States, however, purchasing a suppressor requires a months-long extra background check and a large fee meant to keep them out of reach for poor and middle class Americans. The Share Act includes a provision that would remove suppressors from the purview of the National Firearms Act of 1934 and treat them like any other firearm. You would still need a background check, but that could be done at the gun store instead of waiting months for the ATF to get around to it.
Both of these bills are common sense. Both would not only protect gun owners' rights, but expand the 2nd Amendment and preserve it for generations to come. They were both scheduled for votes only to be pulled by the GOP leadership at the last minute. Republicans were terrified that pushing pro-gun legislation would doom their election prospects.
Well, here we are, just days away from the Democrats taking over. When Pelosi gets the gavel, both of these bills die and we will have to start from scratch.
Will you let the GOP hide and run out the clock? Or will you demand they honor their oath and protect the 2nd Amendment?
Democrats are already licking their lips and announcing their plans to introduce new gun control laws. Among them are plans to regulate how fast a semi-automatic firearm is allowed to fire, a ban on semi-automatic rifles and shotguns, a ban on any magazine holding more than 10 rounds, a ban on homemade guns or at-home gun repairs, and the creation of a nationwide gun owner registry (which is the first step towards nationwide confiscation).
The Left wants to implement nationwide disarmament programs to allow police to disarm gun owners based on nothing but hearsay and without any evidence of mental illness or criminality. Their "red flag" proposal would let family members turn gun owners into police for confiscation. Just last month, an elderly man was killed in his front door by police. He wasn't mentally ill and hadn't broken any laws. One of his family members had turned him into police for confiscation because they didn't like that he owned guns. When he resisted the attempts to confiscate his guns, a shot went off in the scuffle and he was shot dead by police.
Nancy Pelosi announced yesterday that they are whipping up the votes for this gun violence prevention legislative package. They want to push through all of it and she finally revealed that based on their count, not only will their gun control bill pass, but "it will be bipartisan."
That means that they've gotten GOPers to cave. After two years of promising to protect and expand the 2nd Amendment, the Republicans are turning and signing onto massive gun control legislation once the Democrats take over.
I am not going to sugar coat this. The situation is dire. We are running out of time to push the Concealed Carry Reciprocity and Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreation Enhancement Acts through Congress and onto President Trump's desk (where he has promised to sign both).
These two bills would not only protect gun owners from future assaults on their liberty, but it would abolish century-old gun control laws deliberately designed to make it harder for lower-to-middle class to defend themselves.
Both of the times that Congress was going to vote on these bills, Paul Ryan pulled them from the calendar because there was a prominent mass shooting. The GOP didn't want to risk their midterm results on protecting the 2nd Amendment.
Well, now there aren't any excuses anymore.
Time is running out and it is up to you to force Congress to hold votes on these common sense pro-gun bills!
When the Left takes over the House in January, we are expecting an unprecedented gun control push. Many cowardly Republicans will join them.
We will never stop fighting against the forces of gun control and civilian disarmament and will be here to push back against everything Pelosi throws at us.
But right now, we have a chance to go on offense. We have an opportunity to not only expand gun rights in this country, but to protect the right to keep and bear arms for generations to come.
That is worth fighting for.
Please, help us put maximum pressure on Congress to pass HR.38, The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, and HR.3668, the Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreation Enhancement Act, before it's too late!
Sincerely,
Joe Otto
