President Trump is racking up the court victories. First, the Supreme Court ruled that the President crackdown on immigrant welfare abuse could go into full effect. Then, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals shocked the country by upholding the President's ban on federal funding for abortion clinics like Planned Parenthood.
Now, we have another huge victory to report to you. The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals has unanimously upheld the President's authority to crackdown on sanctuary cities and withhold funding from cities, counties, and states that harbor illegal alien criminals.
The premise is very simple. Every year, the Federal government provides billions in law enforcement grants to states and localities. But instead of cooperating with immigration enforcement, these "sanctuaries" are shielding illegal alien convicted criminals and protecting them from deportation.
The 2nd Court just ruled that the President has the right to make these grants conditional and to withhold them from jurisdictions that harbor illegals. Simply: if a city or state refuses to cooperate with Federal law enforcement, they can be denied Federal law enforcement grants.
But there is a catch. President Trump's power to do this doesn't stem from the Constitution, but rather from Congress. And what Congress gives the President can be taken away in a single vote...
That is what Democrats are now pushing for. Both Pelosi and Schumer are advancing legislation to amend US law to block Trump from cracking down on sanctuary cities. And they are just a few votes away from it passing!
President Trump has specifically been able to fulfill his campaign promises because past Congresses have given the President so much discretionary power on immigration.
Trump has used these same discretionary powers to implement his travel ban, put an end to unvetted refugee admissions from the Middle East, reprogram funding for the border wall, deploy Army and National Guard troops to the border, end catch and release. Now, the court has ruled that the President can do the same with his crackdown on sanctuary cities.
But Congress can, with a single vote, take these discretionary powers away. We have already seen two dozen Republicans side with Democrats against Trump's plan to fund the border wall on his own. When Trump implemented his travel ban, we saw GOPers rush to the nearest news camera to condemn the President.
Now, Democrats are offering these same GOP cowards a chance to put a stop to all of it and rescind all of the President's discretionary immigration powers.
Everything that Trump has accomplished on immigration would be immediately thrown out and the sanctuary cities and states that are harboring illegal alien fugitives would get completely funded...
And it is not just Establishment Republicans who are negotiating with Democrats over this. Conservatives like Mike Lee (UT) and Rand Paul (KY) have also joined the Left on previous votes to abolish these powers because they don't believe any President should have the right to enforce immigration law like this.
When you combine the Establishment Republicans who hate Trump's immigration policies with the "principled" Conservatives, that gives the Left more than enough votes to rush their bill through!
We never would have been in this position if Congress had actually done its job. For the first two years of the Trump Presidency, both Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan blocked every single aspect of the President's immigration agenda. They refused to allow it to be passed into law.
Trump had no choice but to take action on his own and the country is now safer for it.
But the same Republicans who blocked these immigration provisions from passing now want to roll back all of Trump's new regs and drag us back into the Obama years.
You cannot let them get away with this!
Hold the line!
