The madness continues. The Left sees an opening in their culture war, a chance to gain ground, and they are rushing to take it.
Yesterday, I told you about how the GOP has already caved to the Left's demand that 10 military bases have their names changed because they are named after Confederate soldiers. I explained to you how these bases don't honor the Confederacy, but rather the heroism of individual men.
I warned that if this evil was not stomped out, the Left would keep going. Unfortunately, I was right. Over the weekend, a statue of Frederick Douglas was torn down in Rochester, New York. The statue was erected at the very spot that Frederick Douglas, a freed slave, gave one of his greatest speeches on July 5, 1852.
On July 5, 1852, Frederick Douglas, a freed slave, gave one of his greatest speeches in Rochester, New York. Douglas praised the Founding Fathers as "statesmen, patriots, and heroes" and marveled at how a nation could "raise, at one time, such a number of truly great men." But he also warned that until African Americans were freed, the promise of Jefferson that "all men are created equal" would continue to ring hollow.
Douglas cried out that until slaves were freed, the Fourth of July holiday was "empty and heartless." As long as slave masters were allowed to keep human beings in bondage, the talk of toppling tyrants was little more than "hollow mockery."
It was a biting speech, but he wasn't wrong. In the years that follow, the United States would descend into a civil war, the bloodiest war in our history. The price to correct the injustices that Douglas mentioned in that speech was paid in blood.
Why am I telling you this story about Frederick Douglas' speech? Because over the weekend, Black Lives Matter protesters toppled and destroyed the statue commemorating that speech. Go ahead and look at the picture above. The statue is just gone.
This is the idiocy I warned you about. This stopped being about George Floyd's death a long, long time ago.
They are only doing this because they think they can get away with this...
President Trump said it perfectly during his Mount Rushmore Speech:
"Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our Founders, deface our most sacred memorials, and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities. Many of these people have no idea why they are doing this, but some know exactly what they are doing. They think the American people are weak and soft and submissive. But no, the American people are strong and proud, and they will not allow our country, and all of its values, history, and culture, to be taken from them."
Trump is right. While the Democrat Party's foot soldiers -- the people actually on the ground tearing down these statues -- have no idea why they're doing it, the Democrat elites know exactly what they're doing...
There is a method behind Nancy Pelosi's madness. She wants to rewrite and erase our history. She tore down a painting in the Capitol last month honoring former Speaker of the House Charles Crisp because he was conscripted into the Confederate Army when he was 16 years old. Just think about that. Crisp's parents were actors in a traveling Shakespeare troupe and just happened to be in Virginia when the Civil War broke out. Because of that, Charles Crisp was conscripted at the age of just 16. If his parents had been performing north of the Mason Dixon line when the South seceded, he never would have fought on the Confederate side.
But Pelosi doesn't care about specifics. Any opportunity to tear down a statue or painting, she is going to take it.
Now, the Democrats have their sights set on a bust honoring Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger B. Taney. His crime? He authored the Dred Scott opinion, a 7-2 decision that declared that enslaved blacks were not technically citizens, and therefore the rights afforded to citizens did not apply to them.
While Taney didn't own slaves, he did support the institution of slavery. If that is the standard for tearing down statues, then most of the Founding Fathers will be next...
When Congress debated whether to put Taney's bust up in the Capitol in 1865, the debate was heated. It took Congress 9 years to finally authorize a sculpture of the late Supreme Court Justice. The reasoning that Congress settled on was that however wrong he might have been on the Dredd Scott case, he was "still a great and learned man." Taney was Chief Justice for 28 years. He wasn't a perfect man, and like many of his contemporaries, he made mistakes. But that doesn't mean that he should just be erased from our history.
It is important to understand that this has nothing to do with George Floyd's death. Just like the radicals protesting Trump's speech at Mount Rushmore had nothing to do with what happened in Minnesota.
This isn't about that anymore. The Left can smell the GOP Establishment's weakness and cowardice, and they know they can force them to cave even more...
By our count, Democrats now have at least a dozen bills that have been filed, or are about to be filed, that are designed to tear down this country's historical statues, paintings, and monuments. They are doing this because they think they can get away with it.
It is up to you to prove them wrong!
The GOP doesn't have a backbone. At the slightest sign of controversy, they cave immediately.
The reason is that despite all of their empty campaign rhetoric claiming to stand on principle, the only thing that many of these people actually care about is getting re-elected. They see this made-up controversy over paintings and statues and believe that the best way to hold onto power is to surrender.
That is why it is so important for you to fight back. The only thing that will stop the GOP from caving is for them to hear from YOU.
It is your job to get louder and angrier than the anti-statue mob and make sure each and every Republican and Democrat knows that if they cave on this, they are finished. It is up to you to force these cowards to hold the line.
That is why I am calling on all Conservatives to join our campaign today and help us send One Million -- you read that right, 1,000,000 -- FaxBlasts to Congress threatening to remove any coward who votes for these radical bills designed to erase our history.
Sincerely,
Max McGuire
