Breaking News: There are now more than EIGHT Republican Senators prepared to block President Trump's border wall emergency order!
Last week, we warned that the Democrats were targeting moderate Republicans to get them to flip on President Trump over the border wall. As we explained, while the National Emergencies Act of 1976 allows Pres. Trump to declare a national emergency to secure the border, the law also allows Congress to overrule him. And it only takes a simple majority in both the House and Senate to do it!
But Democrats aren't stopping there. Obviously, Pres. Trump would veto their Resolution of Disapproval. That is why the Left is convincing more Republicans than ever to join them, so they can override the veto!
Right now, there are at least EIGHT Republican Senators who are meeting with Democrats over this. They are Sens. Susan Collins (ME), Lisa Murkowski (AK), Thom Tillis (NC), Lamar Alexander (TN), Cory Gardner (CO), Marco Rubio (FL), Mitt Romney (UT), and Jerry Moran (KS). Senators Rand Paul (KY) and Mike Lee (UT) have also both criticized the President over the order and but refuse to say how they will vote on the bill.
In the House, we're hearing from our sources that the Democrats may have already convinced THIRTY Republican Congressmen to vote to block the border wall order.
This is it: the last chance to build the border wall and protect the country from the scourge of illegal immigration and cross-border crime. And. like clockwork, the GOP establishment wants to kill it!
Paul Ryan is long gone, but the open border dream he was fighting for is still alive in the GOP. Remember, Ryan didn't block the border wall because that is what he wanted. No, he was serving the GOP's corporate donors who demand open borders so they can take advantage of cheap labor. The GOP leadership today serves those same masters...
Given how much the GOP has tried to block the border wall just in the past two years, it's no surprise that they're rising to block Trump once again. They know this is the last chance to get it built.
Democrats are working fast. They're already targeting these ten Republican Senators. They only need a handful more and they'll have the votes to not only vote down Trump's border wall order, but they'd even be able to override a veto!
There is nothing radical or illegal about what Trump is doing. Every year, Congress gives the Federal government funding. Some of that is appropriated for specific projects. Other funds, however, are considered discretionary. Congress gives loose instructions, but leaves it up to the President to decide how it is spent.
President Trump is "reprogramming" these discretionary funds.
The most "controversial" reprogramming is what is called the MILCON fund. This is funding Congress set aside for military construction projects. But with troops leaving Syria and preparing to leave Afghanistan, the Pentagon doesn't need all of that funding. By declaring the open border to be a national emergency, Trump can use this military construction funding to build border barriers to protect our national security. Congress gave the President this power in the National Emergencies Act of 1976.
Trump is also redirecting funding from the Pentagon's drug interdiction fund and the US Treasury's asset forfeiture fund. The Pentagon will use the funding Congress gave them to stop drug traffickers to... build a wall to stop drug traffickers. And the Treasury's asset forfeiture fund will take money seized from drug lords (approx. 600 million) to help with border wall construction.
All of these reprogrammed funds are going to "germane" projects, which is important. The border wall project is close enough to what Congress approved that the President has the authority to move the funding around.
All-told, President Trump will get 8.8 billion to build the border wall, enough to seal off about a quarter of the border that is currently wide open.
These Republicans, though, want to blow the whole project up and limit Trump to just the 55 miles of fencing that they approved.
This is now or never. If the Establishment wins and is able to block the border wall emergency order, he will be limited to building just 55 miles of fencing this year. We know that come the end of the year, Congress will defund these discretionary programs and leave Trump with nothing.
Either we fight for the border wall now, or the border will stay wide open for years, even decades to come.
Our children and grandchildren deserve better than that. Don't you agree?
We can stop this now, but only if we stand together and fight! Put Republicans and Democrats on notice that a vote against a wall is political suicide and if they dare try to overrule the President on this, they will be removed from office!
Stop these GOP traitors before it's too late!
