Dear Conservative,

The Surgeon General is not a constitutionally-established position, but nominations still require Congressional approval. Mostly, the Surgeon General is used to guide national health policy.  Thanks to the Surgeon General, all packs of cigarettes and bottles of alcohol now contain a prominent health warning.

But, what if the Surgeon General position was, like the IRS, weaponized? What if Obama was to nominate a Surgeon General to push a policy such as gun control?

Well, Barack Obama has done just that and he must be stopped!

Vivek Murthy is 36 years old and received his medical degree from Yale Medical School. That is where his qualifications stop...

Murthy's claim to fame is his work in co-founding the organization "Doctors For Obama." Like Obama, Vivek Murthy is nothing but a 'community organizer' who worked to gather support in the medical community for the Affordable Care Act. In 2009, Murthy's group boasted 15,000 doctors and medical students as members and was allegedly influential in lobbying Congress to pass Obamacare.

That's where Vivek Murthy's resume ends... He is nothing but a young lobbyist and an organizer. Like the man who nominated him, he is woefully under-qualified to be the Nation's doctor!

But, while Murthy might not have any on-the-job experience, per say, he has plenty of controversial opinions. While the official name of his organization is Doctors for Obama, now called "Doctors For America," Second Amendment supporters affectionately call it "Docs Against Glocks."

In 2012, Vivek Murthy infamously tweeted, "[I am] tired of politicians playing politics w/ guns, putting lives at risk [because] they’re scared of NRA. Guns are a health care issue." This tweet has since been deleted, but it shows just how partisan Obama's nominee is.

Murthy's group has lobbied Congress for a ban on "high capacity" magazines and so-called "Assault Weapons," and Doctors For America has been essential in the fight for more Federal funding to perform one-sided studies that seek to prove increased gun ownership leads to more crime!

There is a large push from the medical community to restrict civilian firearm ownership. Even Dr. Ben Carson, a Conservative favorite who may be running for President, said during a Glenn Beck interview that semi-automatic weapons should be prohibited in urban areas!

We must remain vigilant and stop any Obama nominee who will attempt to disarm the American people!

Since the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, gun control groups have tried to redefine the debate in terms of gun violence being a national health crisis. They have lobbied Obama to push for more "gun safety" and it has worked.

Anyone who has recently received a physical or changed doctors knows exactly what I mean. Among the questions about drugs and alcohol that doctors ask you, there is a new, invasive question that has recently been added to the list.

Doctors are now asking their patients, "Do you have any guns in the home?" Yes, this is an unnecessary question, but Doctors are asking it anyway and recording the answers. That is because one executive action that Obama enacted after the Newtown shooting clarifies to doctors that "the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes." Another Obama executive action seeks to inform doctors that "no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities." These were both signed by the President on January 16, 2013.

Back when Obama signed these executive actions, surrounded by children, pundits claimed that they weren't necessarily worth the paper they were written on. Unfortunately, that has proven false.

My doctor tried to ask me whether there were any guns in my home. Do you know what I did? I refused to answer and walked right out of the doctor's office! But what happens when the doctors start asking our children whether their parents have guns in the home? What happens when the children say yes because they don't know better? This is already happening!

Make no mistake, this is just a means to an end. The goal of this administration is total disarmament. When you give doctors the power to survey patients for gun ownership and also give them the power to report people to the police for disarmament, we have a serious problem!

Vivek Murthy has already cleared the Senate health committee and will likely be voted on by the full body later this week.

Sen. Rand Paul is trying to stall the confirmation, but thanks to Harry Reid's use of the Nuclear Option, it will only take 51 Senators to confirm Murthy as Obama's gun control Surgeon General. Yet, as last week showed with the failed confirmation of Debo Adegbile, a lawyer who infamously defended a cop-killer, no confirmation is certain!

This country cannot afford to have such an inexperienced and pro-gun Surgeon General! We must force Congress to vote against Obama's anti-gun nominees and prevent any attempt to disarm the American people!

Sincerely,

Joe Otto
