Mitch McConnell and his RINO allies don’t know when to give up.
The U.S. Senate has already voted down his plan to renew the PATRIOT Act's most heinous provisions. Instead of accepting defeat, McConnell has planned an emergency session this weekend to force his PATRIOT Act renewal bill through!
Don’t listen to what the RINO pundits are saying. The vast majority of the PATRIOT Act will remain in effect come next week. However, the most unconstitutional provisions are set to expire on June 1st.
One of the catalysts of the American Revolution was the British use of what were known as “general warrants.”
Instead of issuing warrants to search and arrest individual people, the British used these general warrants to search and abuse entire neighborhoods. The most infamous general warrant was used against a man named John Wilkes (not to be confused Pres. Lincoln’s assassin).
A warrant was issued against everyone associated with the colonial newspaper, The North Britton. In 32 hours, a single warrant led to 20 doors being kicked in, hundreds of locks being broken, and the arrest of 49 individuals (including Wilkes).
This was so offensive to the Colonists that the number 49 became a rallying symbol and was painted on the side of buildings as a sign of resistance.
If the colonists were willing to take up arms over 49 people being illegally searched, what do you think they’d say about the NSA’s program that illegally searches hundreds of millions of people at once?
Demand that Congress respect the 4th Amendment and allow worst parts of the PATRIOT Act to lapse!
It really is that simple. A single warrant should not have the power to let the government seize and archive every Americans’ phone/Internet records.
That is exactly what Section 215 of the PATRIOT Act does. Instead of forcing the government to identify the subject of each warrant, Section 215 of the law gives agencies like the NSA the power to collect and archive everyone’s Internet and phone records.
If you talk to any of the sponsors or co-sponsors of the original PATRIOT Act, they will tell you that it has been grossly misinterpreted by both the Bush and Obama administrations. Congress never intended to give spy agencies like the NSA so much power over innocent Americans.
A lot of people believe that if you have nothing to hide, then there’s nothing to worry about. Well, that’s not how our country is supposed to work.
Right now, as you read this, the NSA is recording your keystrokes and archiving everything you’ve done on the Internet today. They are building a case against you without even accusing you of a crime. Then, if you happen to slip up, they can go back and use this illegally collected evidence against you.
The 2nd Circuit Court ruled that this data collection was illegal. Instead of letting it die, Mitch McConnell has vowed to renew it!
He is calling an emergency session this weekend to force the Senate to vote on a PATRIOT Act renewal.
This cannot be allowed to happen! The last time Mitch McConnell tried this, 54 Senators voted against the renewal. But you can be sure that there are back room dealings happening right now to purchase these votes. All you have to do is raise your voice right now and make sure that these 54 Senators stick to their votes!
