A little more than a year ago, our nation suffered a horrific tragedy when a disturbed young man stole his mother’s firearms and went on a shooting rampage at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
The school shooting left twenty children and six faculty-members dead, making Sandy Hook the second deadliest school shooting in U.S. history.
While the nation grieved for the victims of this terrible tragedy, the country’s gun control organizations saw the massacre as a chance to reignite the push for gun control that had been stalled for a decade. Before any of the details of the massacre were even made public, these liberal organizations and paid political hacks had already begun calling for the universal registration of firearms (necessary to enforce universal background checks), a renewed “Assault Weapons” Ban and a prohibition of so-called “high capacity magazines.”
Together, we were able to push back against these unconstitutional proposals and ensure that the Second Amendment, as envisioned by the Founding Fathers, would survive. When the Second Amendment was on the chopping blocks this past year, you joined hundreds of patriots in faxing Congress to remind them that the RIGHT of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!
We were able to stand our ground against these horrific proposals because we were able to overwhelm Congress with a deluge of faxes and emails against the legislation. However we can never allow ourselves to become complacent. We cannot afford to let up!
Gun control has remained in the headlines in recent months as other copycat killers have sought to gain infamy by killing innocent people. After every shooting, the gun-grabbers continue their relentless pursuit to create a gun-free America. With the help of rich socialists like Michael Bloomberg and George Soros, the gun control organizations have proven that they are in this fight for the long-haul. They are more than happy to battle year after year for every inch of their agenda, and they are confident that they will outlast us. But we know differently. We know that we will not stand by as the Democrats seek to redefine what it means to be an American.
This month marks the one year anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting. As you have noticed, the gun control movement is once again out in force trying to convince the public that the only way to stop deranged gunmen is to punish the tens-of-millions of law-abiding Americans who have never so much as contemplated committing a crime!
As gun control groups continue to vilify law-abiding gun owners and push for nation-wide disarmament, it has never been more important to show Congress that while we must honor the victims of these tragedies, it cannot be at the expense of our constitutionally-protected rights.
We have been called to protect the constitution in this time of crisis. We’ve heard the Liberals call gun owners “monsters” and “baby killers.” But we are none of those things. We are law abiding, patriotic Americans who are sick and tired of being told we must compromise on our values and rights without ever receiving anything in return.
We must always remember the victims of Sandy Hook and other mass shootings, and we must work to ensure that such tragedies never happen again. But we CANNOT allow Congress or this President to sacrifice the Second Amendment – the last defense against tyranny – in the process!
