This time last month, the Trump administration was just days away from withdrawing the United States from the United Nations Climate Treaty, a treaty that Barack Obama unconstitutionally signed, implemented, and funded without Congressional approval.
President Trump had proposed massive cuts to the United Nations' funding and dismantled President Obama's climate change executive orders. Then, just as the President was about to finish what he started, the establishment wing of the White House - led by Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson - put a stop to the withdrawal efforts.
Ever since, they have been pressuring the President to go back on his campaign promise and keep the illegally and unconstitutionally signed UN Climate Treaty on the books.
The President refused. Instead, he will make the treaty a central part of his platform when he visits with NATO countries' representatives in the coming days.
That has not stopped these Establishment types from pushing their agenda. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson just signed not one, but TWO new climate change treaties. While meeting with foreign counterparts, Tillerson signed onto a joint statement that reaffirmed the United States' commitment to Obama's climate treaty with the UN...
"Noting the entry into force of the Paris Agreement on climate change and its implementation, and reiterating the need for global action to reduce both long-lived greenhouse gases and short-lived climate pollutants."
Tillerson actually signed onto that statement...
The battle lines have been drawn. All of the fighting we have done now comes down to this. The GOP Establishment is pressuring Trump to cave on the UN treaty, world leaders are pressuring Trump to cave on the UN treaty, and now Congressional Democrats are doing the same.
President Trump promised on the campaign trail to rip the UN Climate Treaty to shreds and for good reason.
Former-President Obama signed onto the treaty without Congressional ratification, funneled a billion dollars to it without Congressional appropriation, and then began implementing it by executive order without Congressional passage. All of this was done illegally and unconstitutionally.
To placate the establishment voices within his administration, President Trump has decided to talk to world leaders and see whether the treaty can be renegotiated.
Yet today, the United Nations is celebrating. After watching the Secretary of State sign onto the treaty, they expect the Trump administration to keep funnelling money into the program.
It is up to all of us to put an end to this. It is up to all of us to see this fight through to the end!
We are really all that is left in this fight. If you won't rise up now, who will?
