I told you that this was coming... Democrats just introduced a bill to protect the rioters and looters by making it illegal for Trump to send soldiers into cities to protect innocent Americans!
The Insurrection Act of 1807 gives the President of the United States the power to call in the military to protect American if -- and only if -- local and state politicians are unable or unwilling to do the job.
Trump has warned that unless cities and states do a better job cracking down on the rioting and looting, he will have no choice but to invoke the Insurrection Act the way that George H.W. Bush did in 1992 to quell the LA riots.
The President is hopeful that he won't need to use this power. He is hopeful that cities and states will rise to the occasion and protect their citizens.
Democrats, however, want to pull the rug out from under the President. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) is introducing legislation today to amend the Insurrection Act of 1807 to prevent the President of the United States from protecting innocent Americans.
This is a law that has been on the books for 213 years and has been invoked by Republicans and Democrats alike to protect innocent people during times of insurrection. But because President Trump is merely considering invoking it, Leftists want to gut the law entirely.
Yesterday, I told you about how Leftists want to abolish the federal program that helps local police acquire riot gear from the Pentagon. Today, their plan is to allow Mayors and Governors to surrender their cities and states to violent mobs.
That is what they are talking about here. The President can only call the military in to restore order if mayors and governors cannot or will not do the job themselves.
The Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio has literally given stand down orders to police precincts. Not all that surprising given the fact that his own daughter was among the lawless "protesters" that were arrested over the weekend. The Governor, Andrew Cuomo, has also refused to send in the National Guard.
Two New York City police officers were shot last night. Another one was stabbed in a completely unprovoked attack. President Trump is seriously considering sending soldiers in to restore order. Not to attack peaceful protesters, but to put a stop to the rioting, looting, and attacks on police officers.
But Richard Blumenthal's bill would make it illegal for Trump to do anything. If Bill de Blasio and Andrew Cuomo want to let violent leftists burn the city to the ground, Blumenthal's bill would force Trump to just sit by and watch it happen...
This is disgusting, but also par for the course for Democrats.
I am hopeful that President Trump will not need to deploy soldiers to restore order in cities like New York and Los Angeles. But I will be damned if I allow Democrats to remove that tool from the tool box in order to protect the rioters and looters!
The Insurrection Act is the same law that Dwight Eisenhower used to force Little Rock to allow black students to register in an all-white high school. This is an important presidential power. When cities and states fail to protect the rights of their residents, in violation of the 14th Amendment, it is up to the President of the United States to intervene and protect the people.
But now, Democrats want to gut this law. They want to give Democrat mayors and governors the power to issue stand down orders and surrender their cities to violent mobs.
Unfortunately, there is no shortage of GOP cowards who are supporting this effort. Remember, 2 dozen GOPers voted with Democrats to stop Trump from declaring an emergency at the border and building a wall. Democrats are now targeting these same cowards to vote to handcuff the President again!
You CANNOT allow this bill to pass!
Stop the GOP from caving before it is too late!
