Shameful… It’s just so shameful.
Most Americans have come out against President Obama’s Iran deal. According to the latest Quinnipiac poll, 2/3 of all Americans want Congress to stop this horrible deal.
So you can imagine my surprise to learn today that the GOP was conceding and giving up fighting against the suicidal nuclear deal. That’s right. The Republicans have admitted that they are powerless to stop the nuclear agreement so they are just going to stop trying.
When Congress passed the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act earlier this year, they claimed that this would empower Congress to stop the Iran deal. What they neglected to tell the American people was that Obama retains his veto power.
So in reality, because it takes a 2/3 vote to overcome a Presidential veto, that means it only takes 34 Democrats in the Senate to protect Obama’s veto.
The Republicans have given up on overriding Obama’s veto and they aren’t even sure if they will be able to force an initial vote at all!
The minute that Obama signed the Iran deal, the clock started on Congress’ right to weigh in. The law provides a 60-day window. Because of the timing of the signing of the Iran deal and Congress’ vacation, we don’t have a lot of time to get this done.
Harry Reid has promised to do everything in his power to stop the Senate from even voting on the Iran deal. He wants to save President Obama from the embarrassment of being rebuked in Congress.
So right now, the Republicans in control of both the House and the Senate can’t even guarantee that a vote will take place. They can’t guarantee that they have enough support to force a vote.
Is this the ‘leadership’ that you voted for?
Why do we even bother voting for these Republicans if they are too spineless to fight for their convictions? They promised to do everything in their power to put a stop to this but now that it is starting to get tough, they’re running away with their tails between their legs.
And they have the nerve to ask you to continue to support them…
Here’s the truth. These spineless politicians make all the promises in the world and then give up at the first sign of trouble because they think they can get away with it. They assume they can go back on their promises and that you will continue to pull the lever for Republicans on Election Day.
It’s time to break that cycle. It’s time to put it in no uncertain terms that any Congressman or Senator who surrenders to Obama’s Iran deal is signing his or her death warrant.
Surrender is not an option.
