The U.N. laid low until after the presidential election because any news about Obama supporting an international gun treaty would have hurt his re-election chances. So, just as he tried to sweep Benghazi under the rug, and just like he asked contractors to ignore the WARN Act and hold off on giving layoff notices until after November 6th, he supposedly pressured United Nations committee members to keep quiet about the Small Arms Treaty until voting was over.
Hours after he was re-elected, the U.N. General Assembly’s meeting of the First Committee on Disarmament called for a new round of talks in March. Founder of the Second Amendment Foundation Alan Gottlieb said, “Just days ago as he campaigned for re-election, Barack Obama told his supporters that voting is the ‘best revenge.’ I guess now we know what he was talking about. The revenge he seeks is against American gun owners and their Second Amendment rights.”
The UN Small Arms Treaty will:
- Enact tougher licensing requirements, making it almost impossible for you, an individual, to own a firearm
- Require the government to confiscate firearms owned by individuals
- Place further restrictions on the sale of arms
- Create an international gun registry
We are pushing for support of S. 2205 and H.R. 4846, bills that will protect Americans from any U.N. treaty and keep our sovereignty in place. These bills are meant to be a safety net if for any reason, the Senate ratifies the Treaty, or an anti-gun President passes an Executive Order. We must protect our rights under the Constitution.

When Obama took office, he reversed the policy of the United States and began treaty negotiations with the U.N. Now that he doesn’t have to worry about re-election, he is going to ram through his agenda. Taking away the rights of American gun owners and weakening America is part of that agenda. Governments will become more powerful and well armed, and citizens will see their right to own firearms disappear. It is Barack Obama’s dream: the dream of a large state to take care of weakened masses. As proud citizens of this great nation, we must fight for our Constitution and remind our leaders to do the same. The American people need to contact Congress immediately and let their feelings be known about the U.N. Small Arms Treaty.
Jeff Abramson, director of Control Arms, a coalition of advocacy groups, is pushing for a strong agreement: "We need a treaty that will set tough rules to control the arms trade, that will save lives and truly make the world a better place." And Brian Wood of Amnesty International said: “[W] e’re only months away from securing a new global deal that has the potential to stop weapons reaching those who seriously abuse human rights."
Isn’t freedom a human right? The U.N.’s ultimate goal is to make America weaker and more vulnerable without armed citizens on the watch against tyranny. Also, within the language of regulating us to death and gun registries is that tiny little question of, just who qualified as a “terrorist” or a “radical regime?” Is someone who disagrees with the government? Is it someone against one world government? Is it a member of the military? Is it a conservative?
The ostensible purpose of this treaty is to prevent terrorists and radical regimes from acquiring weapons. But, let’s be real: criminals will never have any problem getting their hands on weapons. Law-abiding citizens like you and me, who wish to own firearms for protection and recreation, will suffer. Countries who signed on to the treaty have their own problems with arms trafficking; and last summer, Iran even led the talks!
The U.N. is making plans for implementation, saying they are “committed to mobilizing the necessary political will and resources to implement the Programme of Action and the International Tracing Instrument,” and they are looking for clear results over the next 6 years. There will be pressure put on the United States to adopt this treaty and sign on to implementation and regulation that are going to be at odds against our Second Amendment rights.
The U.N. is a bloated international agency that constantly has to give itself something to do. That is how wide-ranging, one-size-fits-all agreements bleed their way into Member nations that are as different as North Korea is to Canada; or as Iran is to the United States. That is why Iran was allowed to lead treaty negotiations a couple of months ago. Under the U.N. umbrella, all are equal…except for the United States, of course. We are the enemy.
Stop the U.N. from meddling in our Constitution. Save our right to bear arms. Keep America free from international control.
