Yesterday, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced he was retiring. This gives Donald Trump the ability to nominate a replacement and cement a 5-4 Conservative majority for at least the next decade.
Mitch McConnell, to his credit, said that he would immediately start the confirmation process as soon as Trump names the nominee. For all of his inaction, he did change the Senate rules to allow Republicans to confirm Supreme Court Justices without needing any Democrat votes. He didn't decide to do that on his own, though. By our rough count, we bombarded Congress with close to 5 million FaxBlasts demanding that they stop President Obama from filling Justice Salia's seat and only confirm a Conservative Justice. We were successful.
Democrats, of course, are promising to vote against anyone Trump nominates. That's their game.
But now we're hearing that there are actually Republicans who are putting up a fight too. These are the same spineless cowards who were pressuring McConnell to relent two years ago and let Obama fill Justice Scalia's seat.
With John McCain out of DC fighting terminal brain cancer, even one Republican 'no' vote can doom the confirmation. And establishment Republicans are now lining up to take their shots at Trump and extract concessions. It's shameful.
At the top of the list is Jeff Flake (R-AZ). No surprise. This week he announced he would block all of Trump's judicial nominees until the President reversed his... Cuba policy. Yes, it is that idiotic. Flake doesn't actually care about Cuba. He just needs a reason to stick it to the President. And since he sits on the Judiciary Committee, his lone vote can doom any nomination. This man was forced to retire in shame after early polls showed him losing his primary by double digits. Now Flake is blocking all of the President's Judiciary nominations... including the Supreme Court!
Then there are Susan Collins (R-ME) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK). They consistently vote against any pro-life bill that comes before the Senate. President Trump has already promised that he will only appoint pro-life justices that will likely overturn key components of Roe v Wade. Collins and Murkowski are already starting to waffle on whether they will allow the President to create a pro-life court...
Then there is Bob Corker (R-TN), who is also retiring in disgrace after his anti-Trump rhetoric turned his constituents against him. He is now considering blocking the nomination in order to get concessions from the President on trade.
On top of all of that, we are hearing that some in the GOP want to wait until after the midterm elections to fill the vacancy, once the next Supreme Court session has already begun. They think that would be "fair," since they kept the seat open for a whole year during the 2016 Presidential Election.
This is shameful to watch. All of these traitors are trying to use a Supreme Court vacancy as a bargaining chip. And thanks to McCain refusing to retire, just one of them can tank the whole process. If even one of them flip to the Democrat side, they can block Trump's nominee.
And I haven't even talked about the Left, yet. Chuck Schumer -- and even Nancy Pelosi -- are threatening to grind everything to a halt if Republicans confirm a new Supreme Court nominee.
We saw how GOP turncoats tried to force McConnell to surrender Justice Scalia's seat two years ago. These are people who simply cannot stomach creating a Conservative Supreme Court.
They must be stopped!
When some GOPers were conspiring to put Obama's nominee Merrick Garland onto the bench, it would have taken 14 Republicans teaming up with the Left to make it happen. They were convinced that they were close to having the votes.
Today, one single Republican can derail the confirmation. Because Jeff Flake sits on the Judiciary Committee his 'no' vote alone could even stop the nomination from even reaching the floor for a full vote.
We have a once in a lifetime opportunity here. Do you know the last time that there was a real Conservative majority on the Supreme Court? Most say we haven't had a consistent Conservative court since 1935.
Think of all of the Supreme Rulings that came over the past 80+ years. Think of all of the cases that will reach the court in the next few years. On the pro-life and 2nd Amendment issues alone, we have the ability -- right now -- to put this country back on track.
My wife and I had our first son this past January. I look at him and I am proud of the country we are building that he will inherit. But we have the chance to build an even better America for our children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren, one that is devoid of leftist judicial activism and legislating from the bench.
This is truly worth fighting for. Please, do not let these GOPers ruin this!
