There is a full-blown mutiny going on right now in Congress. Real Conservatives, fed up with Boehner and McConnell, gave both leaders an ultimatum: wise up and stop the Iran deal or pack their bags and relinquish their leadership position.
Boehner is in worse shape. He was notified this week that if he allowed the Nuclear deal to go through, there would be an emergency vote held in the Fall to remove him from power. He’s still trying to figure out how to deal with this coup d’état.
McConnell, on the other hand, has refused to budge. Instead of fighting Obama, he is going to move forward with an up or down vote and if the Democrats win, so be it! If the Democrats have enough votes to filibuster the vote, McConnell says there's nothing he can do.
This isn’t the leadership we fought for. This isn’t the leadership we deserve.
When Congress passed the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, the bill stipulated that every single side-deal must be turned over to Congress before the agreement can be voted on.
Barack Obama has deliberately withheld the text of Iran’s side-deal with the IAEA because he knows how embarrassing it would be to admit that a key part of the nuclear deal is Iran inspecting and monitoring its own facilities. If the President admitted that Iran was going to be placed on the honor system, the whole deal would fall apart.
So, he has decided to keep it hidden. But the President can’t have his cake and eat it too. He can’t demand that Congress vote before September 17th and simultaneously not hand over all of the documents.
Many in Congress are calling for the vote to be delayed and for Congress to demand the text of the side agreements. The law says that Congress has 60 days to vote on the deal after they receive it but if they haven’t received it in its entirety, then the countdown clock hasn’t started yet.
Boehner is skeptical and McConnell has flat-out refused to wait any longer. They both just want to get this issue behind them. If that means giving Iran a pathway to a nuclear bomb, they’re ok with that. Make no mistake, that is the threat we face. Iran will go nuclear if this deal is agreed to.
But I am convinced now, more than ever, that absolutely nothing substantive can get done as long as John Boehner and Mitch McConnell maintain control over Congress. On every issue, we Conservatives have to fight them in addition to fighting the Left.
The mantra of the past few years has been “in order to defeat the Democrats, we must first defeat the Republicans.” I’ve had enough of that. I’ve had enough of people saying that we just have to live with these spineless leaders.
The clock is ticking and these clowns still can’t agree on a way to move forward to stop Obama from surrendering to Iran. It’s time for them to go.
The votes are there. Opponents have said that a vote can be expected sometime in the fall but that's not soon enough. They need to be kicked out of their offices now!
