The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects the God-given right of Americans to bear arms for self-defense. Yet, for a quarter of Americans, this right is completely denied.
In New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland, California, Hawaii, Washington DC, and Rhode Island, state and local governments are allowed to reject concealed carry permit applications for any reason.
We firmly support Constitutional Carry, meaning that the US Constitution is the only concealed carry permit a law abiding gun owner should ever need. Today, twelve states have adopted permitless carry laws and other states like North Carolina are actively debating it. Eventually we will get there. But first, we need to force anti-gun liberal states to obey the Constitution.
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (H.R. 38) would end our country's patchwork system of gun laws once and for all. This legislation would force states to treat carry licenses the same way they would treat driver's licenses. If someone is licensed or allowed to carry a firearm in one state, then they would be allowed to do so in all 50 states.
It is common sense, which is why three more Congressmen just signed onto the effort! Congressmen Sam Graves (R-MO), Greg Walden (R-OR), and David Schweikert (R-AZ) just helped bring the total number of sponsors and co-sponsors up to 197.
This bill just reached the point of viability! It is up to each of us now to rise up and demand a floor vote on this common-sense piece of legislation!
Earlier this year, Congress passed a resolution undoing Barack Obama's attempt to confiscate guns from elderly social security beneficiaries. In that case, H.J. Res. 40 reached the President's desk and was signed into law with just 120 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives. With 77 more co-sponsors, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act will pass if it is put to a vote.
That is our battle: Forcing GOP leadership to put this legislation up for a vote.
Do you know what happened when concealed carry reciprocity was introduced in the House of Representatives in 2009? It gathered 209 co-sponsors, including 68 Democrats. Do you know who signed onto the bill back then to give all Americans the right to carry across state lines? Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan.
That bill was never put to a vote in 2009 because then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi blocked it from getting to the floor. Here we are eight years later and Paul Ryan, one of the original bill's own co-sponsors, has the power to schedule a vote, but he refuses to do it.
The Supreme Court is actively debating whether to take up a concealed carry case out of California. The question is whether states have the authority to outlaw concealed and open carry. The Supreme Court's decision could be announced as early as tomorrow. We cannot leave it up to 9 unelected judges to decide whether We the People have a right to defend ourselves. If the Supreme Court decides to take up the challenge, then it will ultimately be decided by Justice Anthony Kennedy, the swing vote. The Conservative wing of the Supreme Court (Roberts, Thomas, Alito, and Gorsuch) has to decide whether they want to risk giving the Liberals the ability to ban concealed carry.
We cannot afford to wait for the Supreme Court to rule on this and we certainly can't risk getting the wrong ruling.
If Congress passes the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, it would pre-empt the Supreme Court entirely. It would extend concealed carry rights to all Americans, regardless of how the Court rules.
This is a dream worth realizing. This is a dream worth fighting for!
Rep. Richard Hudson's Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would restore the Second Amendment for all Americans. If you have a concealed carry permit, you would be allowed to use it in every state (providing you obey those states' self-defense laws).
But most importantly, if you live in a state like California or New Jersey that blocks citizens from getting carry permits, under this bill you would be allowed to obtain a non-resident carry permit from Utah or Florida and use that to carry in your own state!
This legislation completely undermines state laws that infringe on the Second Amendment's right to bear arms.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. We have a chance to pull down the walls of the gun control Iron Curtain and ensure that liberal states are never again allowed to violate their citizens' right to bear arms.
We cannot afford to fail. Our children cannot afford for us to fail. Unborn generations of Americans cannot afford for us to fail.
Will you join us in this fight?
