A man walked into a restaurant in Oklahoma yesterday and started opening fire. He shot two women before running out to continue his rampage elsewhere.
But as he was leaving the restaurant, he ran into a legally armed citizen who had heard the gun shots. That confrontation left the shooter dead. The armed citizen opened fire and neutralized the threat.
When police arrived, the body count went out over the airwaves and got all of the gun control advocates in the media excited. Three people shot, one confirmed dead. They were chomping at the bit to cover another mass shooting in a pro-gun state.
But when the reporters arrived at the scene, they were told that the only fatality was the shooter himself and that he was killed by a legally armed citizen who stepped in when he heard gunshots.
All of a sudden, the story was removed from all of the news websites. CNN took it off their homepage entirely, as did MSNBC. Fox News has the story on their homepage, but it is all the way near the bottom.
This doesn't fit the narrative. The legacy media is desperate for Congress to pass gun control. But like the Sutherland Springs shooting, where the massacre was ended by a good guy with a gun, this doesn't fit their agenda.
But it fits ours. Once again, mass slaughter was prevented by a legally armed citizen. And yet, more than 25% of all Americans are currently banned from legally carrying firearms for defense in their home states and tens of millions of trained and legally armed Americans are being forced to disarm when traveling across state lines.
We have the ability to change all of that right now!
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is the biggest pro-gun bill -- the biggest civil rights bill for that matter -- to come along in a generation. At the surface, it would allow Americans with concealed carry permits to carry nationwide, instead of just in their home states and states that grant them reciprocity. Currently, it is impossible for any civilian to carry in all 50 states.
For example, I have a permit to carry from two different states -- Colorado and Utah -- and even with both permits, I can still only carry in 37 out of 50 states. States like New Jersey, California, New York, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Hawaii make it next to impossible for anyone to carry. They don't accept any out-of-state permit at all and block their citizens from carrying as well.
But that is where the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act goes further than any other pro-gun bill ever. Law abiding Americans in anti-gun states would be allowed to get a non-resident carry permit from a state like Florida or Utah and then use it to carry nationwide... including in their home state.
This bill would tear down state-level gun control laws that have been on the books for over a century and restore the right to carry to all Americans.
We have confirmed that Congress is holding another vote on the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act this summer. The story of how we got to this point is a little complicated, but it shows how the GOP Congress has perfected the art of saying one thing and doing another.
When the House voted on this bill last year, the GOP leadership added a gun control amendment at the last moment to court "moderate" Republicans. That bill passed with a bipartisan majority.
But then when the Omnibus spending bill came up for a vote months later, Paul Ryan left the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act on the cutting room floor. Instead, pushed through the left's background check bill only. That gun control amendment got signed into law, while gun owners were told once again that the 'timing wasn't right' to protect the 2nd Amendment.
No surprise, Mitch McConnell has refused to vote on it at all. The GOP establishment thought they had won. They thought they had succeeded in stopping carry reciprocity from ever reaching Trump's desk.
What they didn't count on was you. They thought you would just accept defeat and move on.
Since Trump took office alone, we have buried Congress in more than 3 million FaxBlasts demanding they put the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act onto Trump's desk. These are physical faxes that were printed out in Congressional offices.
The GOP leadership tried to move on. But you and tens of thousands of other like-minded Conservatives refused to let them.
After all of this, we have now just confirmed that both chambers of Congress will re-vote on this common sense pro-gun bill this summer.
This is a once in a lifetime chance to restore the 2nd Amendment!
Republicans in the House are terrified of losing their seats. So are the Senate Democrats who represent pro-Trump states and are up for re-election. This is an opportunity to pressure both to go on the record on the 2nd Amendment.
For goodness' sake, there are Democrats up for re-election in states like West Virginia, Montana, Ohio, North Dakota, Missouri, and Florida, all states that Trump won. Some of these states, Trump won by double digits. He won West Virginia by more than 42%.
Does anyone seriously think these vulnerable Democrats could win re-election if they vote against the right to carry?
So, that is what the Congressional leadership is going to do. Not by their own doing, mind you. We forced them to hold this vote.
We are hearing that this vote could come as soon as a week from now. It is really now or never. We have a chance to restore the right to carry to a quarter of all Americans who live in anti-gun states. Millions of Americans have lived and died without ever being able to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights, not because they were felons, but because their state governments simply refused to allow it.
This is worth fighting for.
So please, if you care about the Constitution and you care about the 2nd Amendment, join this fight and help us push the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act across the finish line.
We have reached the "now or never" point in this battle and I choose Now.
What do you choose?
Never stop fighting,
