This week, the ATF abruptly reversed a 2013/4 ruling and reclassified a legal pistol as a highly-regulated short-barreled rifle. The thousands of Americans who own this gun now must disassemble it to avoid prison time. They then have to decide between leaving the pistol unassembled forever or paying $200 to register the firearm with the ATF as a short-barreled rifle.

Congressman Matt Gaetz warned months ago this was coming. The ATF next plans to issue a nationwide ruling, instantly turning millions of innocent Americans into felons.

At issue is an accessory known as a pistol arm braces. Back in 2013, Alex Bosco invented a firearm accessory known as the SB-15. It was designed to go on the back of a pistol to allow disabled Americans to better fire a handgun one-handed. The SB-15 wraps around a shooter's forearm to make it easier to hold up the weight of a pistol. It was designed specifically for disabled veterans coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. Alex Bosco wanted to help soldiers with disabilities re-enter the shooting sports.

Millions of Americans now own firearms equipping or designed around these arm braces. In addition to wide adoption by disabled gun owners, millions of Americans have purchased arm braces to make it easier to safely and accurately fire their pistols.

Each of these pistols and braces come packaged with a letter from Obama's ATF detailing that it is legal to own. Now, the ATF has changed its mind and despite the fact that these devices and firearms were bought in good faith with government approval, they will have to be disassembled, destroyed, or registered with the government for gun owners to remain in compliance with the law.

This is insane.
