Breaking: More Cowardly GOPers Opposing Trump's Exec. Orders

Dear [Sen./Rep.] [LAST NAME]:

Over the weekend, President Trump signed four executive orders.

One suspended the collection and interest on Federally-backed student loans. Another instructed the Department of Housing and Urban Development to make funds available to Americans to protect them from being evicted as a result of the economic lockdown. Both orders are well rooted in law.

The other two orders were more controversial, but still legal. President Trump invoked the power that Congress granted to him in the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 (found in 26 U.S.C. 7508A) to suspend the collection of payroll taxes from victims of a Federally-declared disaster. Since President Trump has made an emergency declaration for the pandemic, he is statutorily allowed to invoke this power.

The other "controversial" executive order is Trump's decision to take discretionary, unused DHS Disaster Relief Funding and giving it to unemployed Americans. While many of your colleagues have claimed that what Trump is doing is unconstitutional,  42 U.S.C. 5174 (e)(2) clearly gives the President the power to "provide financial assistance under this section to an individual or household... to address personal property, transportation, and other necessary expenses or serious needs resulting from the major disaster."

There shouldn't be any controversy here. Past Congresses have given the President the power to use executive action to provide relief to Americans in times of disaster or national emergency. Trump is using those powers as the statutes allow.

And yet, so many of your colleagues are now scheming to undo Trump's orders. They would rather Americans continue to suffer than allow the President to take legal and constitutional action on his own. In truth, many of your colleagues are angry because Trump's orders eliminate their ability to use Americans' suffering as leverage to push through radical amendments.

They have been playing political games with Americans' livelihoods for weeks, all in an attempt to use the pandemic as an opportunity to restructure the country to fit their vision. Those are Rep. Clyburn's words, not mine...

It is shameful that President Trump was even put in a position where he had to take action. But it is even more disgusting that your colleagues would push to roll the orders back and deny the American people the relief they need.

I don't care what it takes: You must defend President Trump's orders and block any attempt to roll them back. You cannot allow anyone to use Americans' pain as leverage to push through agenda items like universal mail-in voting or amnesty.

If you won't stand with the President... if you instead choose to deny Americans the relief they deserve... you will be removed from office.

Don't test me...
