Not only would this give the District of Columbia 1 Congressman, but it would also give them two Senators, who would always be Democrats.

That is what this is about. The Democrats are trying to seize more power.

It took four months, off and on, for the delegates in Philadelphia to agree on the text for a new Constitution for this country.

Our country is the product of dozens of compromises made in thie 1787 Constitutional Convention.

One of those compromises was that no state would ever be able to host the Federal capital city. All 13 states wanted to host the new Federal capital, but were far more fearful of another rival state getting it. They knew that it was far too dangerous for any state to be able to control the Federal capital.

To fix this, the convention agreed that the Federal capital would not be in a state, but would rather be located in a non-state "district." That district eventually became the District of Columbia (Washington D.C.).

But now, your colleagues want to rip up this 232-year-old compromise in an attempt to seize more power for themselves. Nancy Pelosi is advancing a bill this week to grant statehood to Washington D.C.

This is nothing but a naked power grab. Democrats know that if they make D.C. a state, they will get one extra Representative in the House and two Senators. They know that these seats would remain under their control forever.

That is why your colleagues are pushing this. It is despicable.

You need to kill this bill. I don't care what it takes, you must kill the bill!

You swore an oath to defend the rights of your constituents. This bill is nothing but an attempt to water down their political power.
