When you arrived in Congress, you swore an oath to uphold and defend the United States Constitution. Whether you like it or not, that includes the 2nd Amendment and yes, the 14th Amendment too.

Americans have a God-given right to defend themselves and their families. The 2nd Amendment was written to ensure that no government is ever able to infringe on this basic right to keep and bear arms.

As riots and looting spread across the country, the 2nd Amendment is more important now than perhaps it ever has been.

We have seen businesses and homes burned to the ground. Innocent bystanders have been beaten and left for dead in the middle of the street. Police have been ordered to stand down and give the protesters space to vent.

And now, as if it couldn't get worse, the same politicians enabling these mobs are suspending the 2nd Amendment to prevent law-abiding citizens from defending themselves.

Seattle just declared a state of emergency and banned all weapons in the city limits. Even law-abiding gun owners will be prosecuted if they carry or use a firearm to defend themselves. Pennsylvania's state of emergency declaration now makes it illegal to openly carry a firearm, even if it is legally owned. Many areas of California are still forcing gun stores to remain closed, preventing law abiding citizens from arming themselves. Other cities like Chicago and New York are considering similar firearm bans.

The 14th Amendment exists to make sure that cities and states can never deprive Americans of their life or liberty. The 14th Amendment empowers Congress to intervene and stop states and cities from infringing on their residents' rights.

The courts are also enabling this lawlessness. A Federal judge in California has already ruled that states can close gun stores and suspend the 2nd Amendment during "emergencies." The Trump administration is promising to investigate cities and states that violate Americans' rights, but that is a slow process.

Only you can put a stop to this right now.

The 2nd Amendment is more important now than it ever has been. Americans have a right to defend themselves, but radical state and local governments are restricting those rights. They are deliberately trying to leave Americans defenseless.

History will not look kindly on politicians that use these riots as an excuse to suspend Americans' gun rights. You have to decide, right now, how you want to be remembered.

As a coward who sat by while Americans' rights were violated? Or as a hero of the Republic who ensured that Americans have a right to defend themselves?

It is your choice, but you should know that if you turn your back on the 2nd Amendment, you are finished!
