America is more politically polarized today than at any point since the civil war. There is not a lot that Democrats and Republicans agree on. But polling shows that both the Right and Left support imposing term limits on members of Congress.

Sen. Ted Cruz has introduced S.J.Res. 1. Under this bill, Congressmen would be limited to serving three terms and Senators limited to serving two terms in office.

The leadership of both parties have promised that this bipartisan and common-sense proposal will never see the light of day.

That makes a lot of sense, coming from them. Pelosi, Schumer, and McConnell have all been in office for over 30 years. These career politicians don't serve their constituents, they serve themselves.

The United States Congress was designed to be the People's branch of government, one designed to be comprised of citizen-legislators who will bring the best ideas from their communities to help make the country better and stronger.

But what new, fresh ideas can someone possibly have after "serving" for 30 or even 40 years?

I understand you are receiving tremendous pressure from special interests and lobbyists to oppose this common sense term limits bill. It is perfectly logical for them to oppose it. To the lobbyists, you are a long-term investment. The last thing they want to do is spend years "investing" in you only to have to start over when you're term-limited.

With this bipartisan bill, we are closer than ever to eliminating the permanent political class.

We the People demand term limits. Public polling shows that more than 75% of the American public agree with Sen. Cruz's proposal.

This is going to happen one way or another. I implore you to bring this resolution to the floor and debate it.

But if you refuse, we will have no choice but to push this through using an Article V Convention of the States. If that happens, you lose the ability to shape the Constitutional amendment.

You are smart enough to understand your options. You can either work with us and play a role in crafting the details or we will go the Article V route and remove you from the process entirely.
