Last week, construction crews began putting up a new 5 mile section of border wall just outside of Yuma, Arizona. This is the first section of border wall that is using funds from Trump's national emergency declaration.

Congress authorized fencing in this area and past Presidents signed off on the construction. But instead of pedestrian fencing, this section of the border only got vehicle barriers. As you know, these barriers do absolutely nothing to stop illegal aliens on foot.

The Trump administration ripped up these "barriers" and is replacing them with a 30-foot-tall border wall. When the construction is finished, this human and drug smuggling route will be closed. This construction project is just the first of over 450 miles of border wall that the administration plans to complete over the next year.

This shouldn't be controversial. Securing the border to prevent drug smugglers and human traffickers from just walking across shouldn't be a political issue.

And yet, that is exactly what it has become. President Trump was forced to declare this national emergency because you decided to hold the funding for these vital national security projects hostage.
