Right now, you and your colleagues are rushing to pass new gun legislation in the wake of the mass shooting. All of the proposals so far would only target law abiding citizens and make it more difficult for them to defend themselves.

That is not the answer, and you know it. Evil people will always find a way to kill people. Punishing law-abiding gun owners will only make it easier for these deranged killers to go unchecked.

However, there is a common-sense bill that would actually help keep the American people safe: H.R.38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.

This bill would require states to honor out-of-state carry permits. If a law-abiding citizen is allowed to carry in one state, then they would be allowed to carry in all 50 states. They would still have to follow the self-defense laws in every state they visit, but anti-gun states would no longer be allowed to violate their 2nd Amendment rights simply because they are from another state.

The bill would also tear down radical anti-carry laws in states like California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Hawaii, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Government officials would no longer be allowed to block law-abiding citizens from exercising their rights. The CCRA would let law-abiding gun owners to get non-resident permits from states like Utah or Florida if their home state refuses to honor and respect their rights.

This bill is common sense. Concealed carry permit holders are the most law-abiding citizens in the country. Data shows that they commit fewer crimes than even police officers.

The best chance we have to keep our communities safe is to empower Americans to defend themselves and others. Every week, we see cases around the country where law-abiding concealed carriers prevent and stop massacres.

But right now, far too many states have made it illegal for people to exercise their 2nd Amendment carry rights.

Under the 14th Amendment, Congress has the power to stop states from violating Americans' civil rights. The Constitution gives you the power to right this wrong, and the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would do just that.

You have a choice right now. You either stand with law-abiding gun owners, or you stand against us. You can either chip away at the 2nd Amendment, or you can empower citizens to defend themselves, and others, in public.

I pray, for your sake, that you choose to support the 2nd Amendment and pass this bill. Because if you don't, you will be removed from office...
