Today, there isn't a whole lot that both Republicans and Democrats agree on. But the polling shows that almost all Americans support term limits for members of Congress. This is true across all demographics. The American people are tired of career politicians.

Senator Ted Cruz and Rep. Francis Rooney have a solution, and it is gaining bipartisan support. S.J.Res.1 / H.J.Res.20 would place a hard cap on how long people can serve in Congress. Congressmen would be limited to serving three terms (six years) and Senators would be capped at two terms (12 years).

I am DEMANDING that you sign onto this measure and do everything in your power to bring it to the floor for a vote.

Congress is supposed to be about 'service.' It is supposed to be comprised of citizen legislators who serve their communities. People who go to Congress with new and fresh ideas to help the country, and then return to private life when their job is done.

But today's Congress is not built around service. Today, becoming a Congressman or Senator is a career.

That is why the leadership in both parties are doing everything they can to block this. This shouldn't come as that big of a surprise: Pelosi, Schumer, and McConnell have all been in office for over 30 years. The very politicians that get to decide whether this term limit resolution gets a vote are the ones who have profited the most from making a career and fortune out of their "service."

You and I both know that new and fresh ideas don't come from people who have been in office for three or even four decades...

I know that you are getting pressure from corporate donors and lobbyists to fight this bill. To them, you are an investment that they don't want to lose. But you don't serve them... you serve the American people!

89% of Republicans, 76% of Democrats, and 83% of Independents agree that there should be some kind of term limits for members of Congress. The American people demand term limits. You have a chance, right now, to push this bill through and have a say in what those term limits will look like.

But if you want to defy your constituents, we will do this without you. We the People will use an Article V convention to impose term limits onto Congress. And if that happens, you won't have any say in the process at all...

You need to understand that this is going to happen one way or another, either with or without you. I implore you to listen to your constituents. Listen to reason.

Support S.J.Res.1 and H.J.Res.20 and send them to the floor for a debate and vote. History will not look kindly on Members of Congress who block this common sense bill, and neither will I on election day...
