Right now, gun control advocates are trying to whip up votes to get two radical gun control bills signed into law. They failed as stand-alone bills, so now they are frantically trying to slip them into a must-pass spending bill.

You need to do everything in your power to kill these radical bills once and for all.

The first is called the Bipartisan Background Checks Act. It would give the government the power to record and monitor all gun sales and transfers in the country, even those among family and friends. Throughout world history, these sorts of gun registration laws have only served one purpose: to pave the way for gun bans and mass confiscations.

That is the only reason that the Federal Government would ever need to know who owns what guns in this country. Without a registry, universal background checks would not be enforceable. If you give the government the power to keep this registry, then you are violating your oath.

But the far worse piece of legislation is the companion bill, the Enhanced Background Checks Act. Pitched as a bill to "enhance" the background check process, it would instead empower the FBI to arbitrarily block any gun purchase. Instead of being limited to just 3 calendar days, the FBI would be able to spend 10 business days deciding whether someone should be allowed to own a gun. And the bill does not even require the FBI to give a yes or no answer! If the FBI doesn't complete the background check, then purchasers would have to appeal, which also takes at least 10 business days. Because NICS checks are only valid for one month, a 20 business day delay would force purchasers to start the whole process over again. The government would have the power to block law abiding gun owners from purchasing firearms practically indefinitely.

But the bill also redefines the term "prohibited person." Instead of the government having to prove someone is "mentally defective" -- defined as someone who is (1) a threat to themselves or others or (2) unable to care for their own affairs -- this bill loosens the language to allow the government to confiscate guns from anyone diagnosed with a mental illness. It is a disgusting assault on Americans who are living with mental illness and completely harmless.

Not only would this open the doors for the government to confiscate guns from MILLIONS of law-abiding Americans, but it would stigmatize mental illness and force millions of Americans to avoid seeking mental healthcare for fear of losing their gun rights. We have already seen how devastating this can be in the VA. Americans should not have to choose between protecting themselves and staying healthy and it is shameful that you and your colleagues would even consider forcing Americans to make that choice...

The Left is desperate to get these bills signed into law, either as stand alone bills or amendments slipped into the must pass OMNIBUS bill that will soon come up for a vote.

It is not enough to just vote against these bills. You must do everything in your power to kill these bills, and any other legislation like them, and protect the right to bear arms.

There is no coming back from this if these bills pass. If you will not fight for our rights, you will be removed from office!
