Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hear testimony on Extreme Risk Protection Orders, also known as Red Flag bills.

So-called experts will try to convince the committee that they should give every law enforcement agency in the country the power to confiscate civilians' guns without even needing to file criminal charges.

But the experts won't have to work that hard. Republicans and Democrats have already agreed that this can be a gun control "compromise" bill. Once the hearing is over, they will try to rush a vote on Marco Rubio and Susan Collins' Extreme Risk Protection Order and Violence Prevention Act (S. 7).

I am demanding that you do everything in your power to KILL this bill.

Americans have a right to keep and bear arms for self-defense. They also have a right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. This legislation flips both of those basic rights upside down.

Instead of having to prove someone broke the law or is mentally ill, police and prosecutors would be able to use hearsay from family members, friends, or neighbors to convince a judge to sign off on a confiscation order.

It would then be up to the disarmed gun owner to prove to a judge that he or she is not dangerous and deserves their rights back. If the judge disagrees, then the disarmament order can be extended up to a year.

All without the gun owner even being accused of breaking the law or adjudicated mentally defective...

This is dangerous. If you allow S. 7 to pass, it will turn my 2nd Amendment right into a privilege, one that can be revoked at practically any time. If you let this bill slip through, it will be abused.

You were sent to Washington to defend the Constitution, not gut it. If you will not rise up now and defend my right to keep and bear arms, you are finished.
