The Founders ratified the 2nd Amendment for a reason. They wanted to protect the right of the people to keep and bear arms from government infringement.

"Shall not be infringed" should speak for itself. But in the last 230 years, we have been told time and time again that we need to "compromise" on our God-given and Constitutionally-protected rights.

Now, some of your colleagues are asking us to compromise again.

They are pushing a new gun confiscation bill that would radically redefine the 2nd Amendment and make it easier for innocent Americans to lose their rights.

They are calling it a "red flag" bill. Essentially, it would allow for local and state law enforcement to confiscate someone's guns based on nothing but hearsay. A judge would then be allowed to suspend the person's 2nd Amendment rights until convinced they do not pose a threat.

That is not how this country's justice system was designed. Americans are supposed to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. This plan would allow for confiscations and disarmament without even needing to charge someone with a crime.

If you allow this to pass, millions of innocent Americans will find themselves in the crosshairs. If you vote for this, you will make American gun owners guilty until proven innocent.

Everyone agrees with disarming dangerous individuals, but law enforcement already has that power. All they need to do is charge someone with a crime or have them adjudicated mentally defective. These are not difficult standards to meet when there are legitimate threats.

These new red flag bills would lower the bar to just mere suspicion. Even if there is no evidence of a crime or mental illness, the government would have the power to suspend someone's God-given rights.

This is unacceptable.

Many in Congress believe that supporting gun control is the only way to win re-election. They are pressuring the GOP leadership to schedule a vote on this "compromise" bill.

I am writing to make sure you understand that if you go down this path, I will not rest until you lose your seat.

I can be your best friend in the world. But if you go after my God-given right to keep and bear arms, I will spend every waking hour fighting to make sure you lose re-election. Mark my words...
