Mitch McConnell has officially added the Homeland Security Appropriations Act to the Senate calendar, even though it does not include funding for the President's border wall.

The bill includes $1.6 billion for border security, but only a small portion is allocated towards renovating and expanding existing border fencing.

This is not good enough.

The House Appropriations Committee approved a $5 billion package that would fund almost 800 miles of border wall. Not the ridiculous 3-foot-tall fencing that previous administration's authorized. This would be a 30-foot-tall reinforced concrete wall.

McConnell is refusing to vote on this, though. He has declared the House version 'dead on arrival' and told the President the border funding would need to wait until after the midterm elections.

The GOP leadership wants me to "trust" them. They want me to re-elect them and then, once the American people lose all electoral leverage, trust that they will fund the border wall. In the meantime, they want to pass a bill that once again outlaws border wall construction.

It's not personal, but I don't trust you. Congress had close to a dozen opportunities to approve the border wall funding over the past year and a half, and each time the leadership declared the "timing wasn't right."

Just months away from the midterm elections, we are being told again that the "timing isn't right" to secure the border. Your colleagues believe their own re-election prospects are more important than protecting Americans from the crime and drugs that are pouring across the border.

President Trump has promised to veto any bill that doesn't include the border wall funds. I wholeheartedly agree with him and if it comes to that, you will get all of the blame.

I am only going to say this once: if the border wall funding -- all $5 billion that the President requested -- is not approved before the end of the fiscal year, you will be removed from office.

I'm tired of the excuses. I am tired of being told to wait for a better time.

There is no better time. You have the power to approve the funding. If you won't use it, I will replace you with someone who will.

That is a promise.
