The midterm elections are less than 100 days away. While this is an opportunity for many of your colleagues to reaffirm their Conservative positions, some are choosing to abandon the Constitution and push a radical new gun confiscation scheme.

U.S. law deliberately makes it hard to revoke an American's 2nd Amendment rights. In order for someone to be disarmed, they must be (1) convicted of a felony or certain violent misdemeanor, (2) involuntarily admitted to a mental institution, (3) adjudicated mentally defective, (4) a fugitive from justice, (5) dishonorably discharged from the military, or (6) a non-citizen or illegal alien.

Police already have plenty of tools to disarm dangerous individuals. If someone truly is a criminal, all it takes is charging them with a crime.

Gun control advocates don't think that is good enough. To them, the right to keep and bear arms should instead be a privilege. They are pushing a radical piece of legislation that would make it easier to disarm gun owners. Except under their plan, police could confiscate someone's guns without even charging them with a crime.

The new bill is being introduced by Rep. John Katko. It would make Federal funds available to encourage state and local police to confiscate Americans' guns without due process.

Under this plan, an angry family member, neighbor, or even complete stranger would be able to turn a gun owner into police. Then, officers would have the right to confiscate the individual's guns without any charges being filed whatsoever. It would then be up to the gun owner to hire a lawyer and convince a judge that he or she deserves their guns back.

Gun confiscation based on hearsay is flagrantly unconstitutional.

I don't care what the bill's intentions are. It will open the floodgates for innocent gun owners to be unconstitutionally deprived of their 2nd Amendment rights.

There are plenty of ways to revoke someone's 2nd Amendment rights and confiscate their weapons. I listed the six that Federal law currently allows. The solution to gun violence isn't to make it easier to infringe on Americans' 2nd Amendment rights. The 2nd Amendment reads "shall not be infringed" specifically for instances like this.

You need to kill the Katko bill and any other gun confiscation bill like it. Do not be fooled. This is not a "compromise," this is a radical shift towards gun confiscation.

Any Congressman or Senator who supports this policy will be removed from office.
