Your job is to pass legislation on behalf of the American people. But you also have a responsibility to work with the White House to make sure that you aren't simply wasting your time on something the President will never sign.

More than anything else, this applies to spending bills because failing to pass a spending package by the end of the fiscal year results in a government shutdown.

So why on earth are you letting your colleagues defy the President on this?

President Trump made it clear. He will not sign any spending package without border wall construction funding. He will veto any appropriations bill or omnibus package that defunds and blocks the border wall from being built.

That shouldn't really come as a surprise. It was his signature campaign promise, one that won him the Presidency.

And yet, Democrats and Republicans believe he is bluffing.

Right now, Congressional leadership is moving forward with a spending package that does not include any funding for the border wall. In fact, it actually prohibits a wall from being built.

Instead, they are promising to pass the border funding after the midterm elections. You and I both know that will never happen.

I am sorry, but this issue is simply too important for me to step aside. Countless Americans are victimized by illegal immigration and the illicit drug trade. Why, because of political correctness? Because you can't stand to see Trump win on anything?

You need to put politics aside. America's southern border must be fully secured and anyone who feels otherwise is unfit to serve in any capacity. Leaving the border wide open like this is nothing short of dereliction of duty.

If you do not put a border wall spending package onto President Trump's desk before the end of the fiscal year, I will remove you from office. No more games and no more kicking the can down the road. This ends now.

If you allow the border funding to get pushed into after the midterms, you will not like the election results.

Either you honor your oath and allow the border to be secured or you will be replaced with someone who will.

President Trump is absolutely right to threaten a government shutdown and if that happens, I will hold you personally responsible.
