You are a public servant. Regardless of what anyone else has told you about Congress, you are not in a career.

And yet, so many in Congress have turned their public service into a career. The majority of Members of Congress are millionaires. Some earned their fortune before entering politics. But far too many struck it rich off of "public service."

When Donald Trump ran for office, he promised not to take a paycheck. When he won, the White House lawyers informed him that he was required by law to accept pay. Every quarter, he donates his paycheck to a different government agency.

You need to apply the same principle to Congress!

Rep. Francis Rooney (R-FL) is taking this principle and applying it to Congress. He has introduced the Thomas Jefferson Public Service Act, named after Jefferson's belief in the citizen-legislator.

His legislation would cut Congressional salaries to $1 after 12 years of service. People would be more than welcome to stay on after 12 years, but they would do so in service to their constituents, not their bank accounts...

In the past, term limits were pushed as Constitutional amendments. You and I both know that process is long and hard. Rooney's legislation, however, takes a different approach. Instead of going the constitutional amendment route, Rooney is proposing reducing Congressional salaries through law. It can pass with a just a simple majority vote and can be attached to any spending bill.

I am calling on you to pass this common sense bill!

I understand you are receiving tremendous pressure from special interests and lobbyists to oppose this common sense term limits amendment. It is perfectly logical for them to oppose it. To the lobbyists, you are a long-term investment. The last thing they want to do is spend years lobbying you only to have to start over when you're term-limited.

But with this new bill, we are closer than ever to eliminating the permanent political class. We are closer than ever to draining the swamp.

We the People are demanding term limits. This is going to happen one way or another. If we have to push this through using an Article V Convention of the States, then we will. If that happens, you will lose the ability to shape the issue.

You are smart enough to understand your options. You can either work with us and play a role in crafting the bill or we will go the Article V route and remove you from the process entirely.

Take your pick, but understand this is happening whether you like it or not!
