In 1994, Congress passed the assault weapon ban and arbitrarily banned semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and pistols that were deemed "too dangerous" for the public. These guns were classified as weapons of war.

The ban sunsetted in 2004, and thank goodness it did. Last weekend, a Memphis man returned home to find two armed burglars in his house. They began opening fire on him, but the homeowner was able to grab his semi-automatic AK-47 rifle and defend himself. He was only able to take on two armed attackers because he had a semi-automatic rifle. Had the assault weapon ban still been in place, there's no telling whether this man would still be alive today...

Yet, even though the 1994 gun ban has ended, there are still regulations on the books classifying rifles as "weapons of war." Bill Clinton implemented export regulations that labeled semi-automatic rifles as military weapons not suitable for export. For years, activist judges have relied on this definition within the Federal register to uphold state-level gun bans.

The Trump administration just announced that they are removing all of these Clinton-era regs. In fact, the new reg would actually remove the term "assault weapon" from the federal register entirely.

Already, some of your colleagues are up in arms. They are demanding that Trump be stopped and are mobilizing establishment Republicans to join their cause. Their hope is to force a Congressional Review Act vote to restore the Clinton-era rules. As you know, a CRA resolution needs only a simple majority in each chamber to pass.

I am writing to you to demand that you stop this plan from moving forward.

The American people had a clear choice. They had the option to elect Hillary Clinton and her promises for a new gun ban. They chose Donald Trump. They chose the 2nd Amendment.

For far too long, these anti-gun regulations have been used to keep the sunsetted assault weapon ban alive at the Federal level. Now, President Trump is striking these regulations from the books and defending the 2nd Amendment once again.

You need to get on board. You must block any and all attempts to reverse Trump's actions and take real action towards expanding Americans' 2nd Amendment rights!

Anything less is an assault on the Constitution you swore an oath to defend. Anything less and you will be removed from office.
