For a year and a half, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act has sat in Congress and collected dust.

Ryan allowed the legislation to pass last year, but only after he attached multiple gun control amendments. He ended up pulling it apart this past winter and added those gun control amendments to the omnibus bill to court Democrat votes. The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act was left on the cutting room floor.

In the Senate, Mitch McConnell has flat-out refused to schedule the legislation for a vote. The bill has literally sat on his desk for 16 months without any action.

But now, we have received confirmation that the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act will get a vote this summer. I am writing to demand that you vote for this common sense legislation.

The bill would require that states treat out-of-state concealed carry permits the same way they treat driver's licenses.

Everyone agrees that it would be chaos to force people to get multiple driver's licenses to drive across the country. Even though different states have different driving laws, we all agree that every state teaches the basics of good driving. When a Texan wants to drive in New York, they still need to research all of the traffic laws, but they don't need to apply for a separate license.

The same must apply for concealed carry permits. While each state may have different self-defense laws, the principles of self-defense remain the same. The 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution protects the right of the people to bear arms. The Supreme Court has determined that means a right to carry firearms. Yet, currently, it is impossible for a law-abiding citizen to bear arms in all 50 states. Only police officers have full nationwide carry rights.

Research has consistently shown that concealed carry permit holders are, on average, more law-abiding than the average police officer. That isn't an attack against police officers, by the way. But it is all the more reason to restore the right to bear arms.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act has two main components. If someone has a lawful carry permit from a state, then that permit would be good in every state.

But perhaps more importantly, it would lift the boundaries in anti-gun states to finally allow Americans living in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island to exercise their right to bear arms without first having to prove to a police chief or judge why they need that right. Currently, 25% of all Americans live in one of these anti-gun states and are having their rights denied.

Under the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, if states refuse to allow law abiding and trained residents to apply for a permit, then those Americans would be allowed to seek a non-resident permit from states like Utah or Florida and then use that to carry nationwide... including in their home states.

This is the biggest civil right bill to come up for a vote in a generation. It's not good enough for you to just announce your support or vote for it. You need to see this legislation all the way to President Trump's desk. I don't care what it takes. I don't care what political capital you need to spend.

A right delayed is a right denied and if you won't stand for the 2nd Amendment, I cannot vote for you.
