We now know why the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act has stalled. The GOP refuses to let it pass.

Paul Ryan is refusing to let the clean bill come for a vote. Mitch McConnell knows that he has the leverage to force vulnerable Democrats to vote on it, but he would rather let the bill die.

Instead of restoring the right to carry for 25% of Americans living in anti-gun states, they are negotiating more gun control.

Last year, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act passed the House with a bipartisan majority. At the last minute, the leadership attached the Fix NICS bill as an amendment. The thought was that in order to get gun control passed, there would need to be a compromise. That compromise was allowing law abiding Americans to exercise their right to carry nationwide.

But the leadership betrayed gun owners. The Fix NICS Act was pushed as a standalone bill and attached to the omnibus. But the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act was left on the cutting room floor.

This is unacceptable.

Gun reform must be a compromise. If we are going to reform the background check system to make sure that criminals and the mentally ill don't fall through the cracks, then it makes sense to protect the rights of people who pass those background checks.

If no one is going to fall through the cracks anymore, then there is no legitimate reason to block licensed gun owners from carrying their firearms across state lines.

The Fix NICS bill became law with the omnibus bill. Now it is time to finish the compromise and pass the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. The votes are there in the House. There are also ten vulnerable Democrats up for re-election in states that Trump won. If they won't support the 2nd Amendment, then they will be replaced by someone who will.

This is the compromise. And yet, it is nowhere to be found. Your colleagues seem only interested in passing more gun control.

You need to do everything in your power to put the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act onto Trump's desk.
