Right after Donald Trump won the Presidency, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell came forward and announced that there would never be term limits as long as he controls the Senate. The GOP leadership in the House agreed.

This month, Rep. Francis Rooney (R-FL) defied McConnell and the leadership by introducing a bill to impose term limits. He is calling it the Thomas Jefferson Public Service Act in honor of Jefferson's belief in the citizen-legislator.

Rooney's legislation takes a different approach. Instead of going the constitutional amendment route, Rooney is proposing reducing Congressional salaries to just $1 once someone has served for 12 years.

Since this would be a law, and not a constitutional amendment, it can pass with a simple majority. You must pass this common sense bill!

I understand you are receiving tremendous pressure from special interests and lobbyists to oppose this common sense term limits amendment.

It is perfectly logical for them to oppose it. To the lobbyists, you are a long-term investment. The last thing they want to do is spend years lobbying you only to have to start over when you're term-limited.
