The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act is common sense. It would require that states treat concealed carry permits the way they do driver's licenses.

Americans who are licensed and trained to carry concealed weapons make this country safer. Yet, in order to carry a firearm outside their home state, they are forced to rely on a convoluted state reciprocity system. Many times, gun owners have to get multiple permits from multiple states in order to be allowed to exercise their right to bear arms where they need to.

Still, it is impossible for anyone (other than police) to bear arms in all fifty states. A minority of anti-gun states still refuse to honor any other state carry permits. 26% of Americans live in these carry-ban states.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act fixes all of this. It grants nationwide reciprocity to permit holders and allows law-abiding residents who live in these anti-gun states to get full reciprocity using non-resident carry permits.

Congress has an obligation under the constitution to pass legislation when states are found to be violating Americans' liberties. The right to bear arms is not a second class right. It is a civil right. States that refuse to allow qualified Americans to exercise those rights are clearly violating the Constitution.

Many of your colleagues think that this isn't the right time to defend Americans' right to self-defense. They want to remove the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act from the package and only focus on fixing the FBI's background check system.

I am writing to let you know that if you go down this path, you will be removed from office. It's not a threat, it's a promise.

Ronald Reagan famously said that our freedoms are never more than a generation away from extinction. I will not allow any politician to remain in office who moves us towards that extinction.

Restore the right to bear arms for ALL law-abiding Americans or pack your bags. It's that simple.
