Yesterday, the House Appropriations Committee approved a DHS bill that would fund $1.6 billion of new border wall construction. This will allow President Trump to build at least 200 miles of border wall.

This spring, border wall funding was originally included in the spending package. However, when Democrats and liberal-Republicans threatened to shut down the government, Ryan and McConnell pulled the wall funding from the bill.

Now, we are here again.

Democrats and some Republicans are once again threatening to shut down the government if this border wall funding is kept in the final spending bill. They would rather shut down the federal government and leave the border wall open than help the President keep Americans safe.

Your predecessors voted for a border wall in 2006. US Law requires that a complete border wall be built. Yet every year since then, the money has been mysteriously missing from the budget. For ten straight years, Congress deliberately refused to fund a border wall that they authorized.

President Trump ran on a message of fulfilling that decade-old promise. And he won in a stunning upset.

Now, some of your colleagues are trying once again keep the wall unfunded. They think they can get away with pulling the rug out from under the President without consequence.

I want to make this absolutely clear. If the wall is not funded in this next appropriations bill, I will have no choice but to remove and replace you.

If you do not use every single tool at your disposal to make sure that the wall gets built, I will simply have no choice.

Please, don't force my hand. Please, honor your commitment to protect the American people and build the wall!
